ASHLAND, Va. - RMC Men's Lacrosse had 16 different players to accompany a shutout by the defense as the Yellow Jackets took a 26-0 win over Averett to open conference play.

How it Happened
- Randolph-Macon got the scoring started just 49 seconds into the game as Matt Carter (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) got the Yellow Jackets on the board. Avery Tankersley (Baltimore, Md./Boys Latin) scored less than a minute later, one of his two goals of the quarter. The Yellow Jackets got three more goals in the quarter from Grant Sobel (Mechanicsville, Va./Christchurch), Tyler Dyson (Culpeper, Va./Liberty), and JT Harvey (Ruther Glen, Va./Riverbend) to hold a 6-0 advantage after 15 minutes of play.
- The offense continued to roll into the second stanza, as Austin Payne (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) made the score 7-0 with 13:34 left in the half. Five minutes later, Payne found the back of the net again, followed by Carter's second goal. JJ Phillips (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) scored back-to-back goals to push the lead to 11. His second goal started a trend of seven goals in the final five minutes of the second quarter, four scored by Phillips, as the Yellow Jackets took a 17-0 lead to halftime.
- The Yellow Jackets got started in the second half with a goal from Jacob MacMillan (Fallston, Md./Fallston) less than two minutes into the period. Another goal by Phillips split two goals by Beau Wojciechowski (Colorado Springs, Colo./Vista Ridge) to cap a four-goal frame and extend the lead to 21 heading into the fourth.
- MacMillan scored his second tally of the contest to begin the scoring in the fourth. The Jackets concluded their impressive offensive day with four more goals by Walker Wilkinson (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry), Andrew Ross (Hyattsville, Md./DeMatha), Ben Tomasic (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock), and Rock Schraa (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) to take a 26-0 win.
Inside the Numbers
- 16 different players scored for RMC, with six scoring multiple goals.
- Phillips had a career-best five goals on five shots. They mark the first five goals of his tenure in Ashland.
- MacMillan tied for the team-high of five points with two goals and three assists. He also picked up a ground ball.
- Wilkinson and Wojciechowski each posted four points. Wilkinson finished with a goal and three assists while Wojciechowski had two goals and two assists while picking up a pair of ground balls and causing a turnover.
