How It Happened (RMC vs. RC)
  • Roanoke struck first in the top half of the first inning, using a two-run homer by Kate Houle to give the Maroons an early 2-0 lead.
  • The Yellow Jackets answered the bell their first at-bats of the game, starting with a leadoff double by Amanda Lanyon (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) and Naomi Sadler (Emporia, Va./Brunswick) being hit by a pitch to start the game. Rilee Baughan (Warsaw, Va./Rappahannock) laced the ball down the right field line for a single and to bring home Lanyon. Kayla Davis (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) and Olivia Owens (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) followed up Baughan with singles of their own and Sadler and Baughan both would score to give Randolph-Macon a 3-2 lead.
  • In the second inning, Lanyon singled with a bunt to put speed on the bases and would later cross home on a Baughan single into left field to extend the lead for the Yellow Jackets 4-2.
  • The Maroons cut the deficit to 4-3 in the fifth inning on a Erin Gorschboth double into right center field that scored Heather McQueeney.
  • Roanoke used four hits to score three runs in the sixth inning to take a 6-4 lead. McQueeney had the big bases-loaded single that scored two Maroons that gave them the lead back after six complete innings.
  • Ally Brown capped off a four run seventh inning with a two-run homer to push Roanoke to a 10-4 lead, as they would hit their way past the Yellow Jackets into the pod championship game.
By The Numbers
  • Baughan ended the game going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored to lead the Yellow Jackets.
  • Lanyon also went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in the first game for Randolph-Macon.
  • Owens and Davis both had an RBI in the game for the Lemon and Black.
  • Sadler recorded two-hits and scored once in the game.
How It Happened (RMC vs. GC)
  • Randolph-Macon broke the ice first in the second game of the day against Guilford. Lanyon kicked off the game with a single down the right field line and scored on a Sadler hit down the left field line that saw a throwing error to allow both runners to move up a base. Later in the inning, Davis grounded out to the pitcher, allowing Sadler to score and double the lead to 2-0.
  • Davis extended the Yellow Jacket lead in the third inning with a solo home run, to give a 3-0 lead to Randolph-Macon after three innings.
  • The Quakers did not go down without a fight in the elimination game, scoring four runs in the top of the fourth inning to take the lead 4-3. Faith Fennell executed a perfect safety squeeze bunt with runners on second and third. The Yellow Jackets tried to tag out Kaci Johnson at home, but she beat the throw and Fennell was caught in the middle of first and second and in tagging her out at second it allowed Lani Procell to score.
  • Randolph-Macon was faced with possible elimination in the final three innings of the game. The Yellow Jackets would not make it that easy, putting together three straight singles by Sadler, Baughan and Davis to tie up the game at 4-4 on the Davis single to score Sadler.
  • In search of the go-ahead run in the sixth inning, the Lemon and Black got a much needed double by Madison Drew Faries (Colonial Heights, Va./Colonial Heights) to put pressure on the Guilford defense. Lamberth hit the clutch single up the middle to bring home Faries and give Randolph-Macon the lead 5-4 with three outs to get in the seventh.
  • The Quakers managed to get the tying and go-ahead run on base in the seventh inning, but Baughan worked out of danger to get the Yellow Jackets to the pod championship game with a 5-4 win.
By The Numbers
  • Davis ended the game with a line of 2-for-3 and three RBIs with a home run.
  • Sadler notched two hits and an RBI in the nightcap game.
  • Lamberth knocked in the eventual game-winning run in the sixth inning.
  • Faries recorded the only other extra-base hit with her double in the sixth inning for the Yellow Jackets.
  • Baughan got her thirteenth win of the season with the complete game victory in the circle for Randolph-Macon. The fifth-year student allowed four runs on six hits and fanned two batters in seven innings.
