ASHLAND, Va. – Four members of the Randolph-Macon baseball team have earned All-Region recognition by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
Senior first baseman
Myles Webb (Norfolk, Va./Granby) and junior relief pitcher
Sam Slevin (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank Cox) were named All-Region Second Team. Slevin was also selected All-Region Second Team by D3baseball.com.
Sophomore designated hitter
Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) and freshman third baseman
Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) were named All-Region Third Team.
Webb has started all 47 games for the Yellow Jackets. He is batting .365 with three homers, 47 runs and 40 RBI. Webb leads the team with 17 doubles and 21 stolen bases. He had reached base safely in the past 16 games and he had a 21-game hitting streak earlier this season, two away from the program record.
Slevin is second in the nation with 11 saves. He set program records with 25 appearances and 11 saves. Slevin has posted a 3-2 record. He has 38 strikeouts and just 11 walks in 33.2 innings. Slevin was All-ODAC Second Team.
Schmitt has appeared in and started 43 games. He is batting. 344 with 10 doubles, three triples, two homers, 39 runs and 41 RBI. Schmitt has walked 31 times and has an on-base percentage of .468. He was All-ODAC First Team.
Wernoski has appeared in and started 44 games. He leads the team with a batting average of .385. Wernoski has 11 doubles, three triples, one homer, 44 runs and 41 RBI. He has walked 22 times and been hit by 19 pitches for an on-base percentage of.502. Wernoski was All-ODAC Second Team.
RMC has posted a record of 33-14. The Yellow Jackets, under the direction of head coach
Ray Hedrick, won the Harrisburg Regional and the Ashland Super Regional to make their second trip to the Division III World Series. Sixth-seeded RMC will face third-seeded Wisconsin-Whitewater on Friday, May 31, at 8 p.m. EDT in Eastlake, Ohio.
