Letellier and Sarnowski Lead Women's Tennis in ODAC Quarters

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Randolph-Macon women's tennis team concluded its season in the ODAC Quarterfinal at Shenandoah University by way of a 5-1 score. 

In doubles, Meckenzie Letellier (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton) and Katie Sarnowski (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) won by a narrow 8-7 margin. Camilla Thurman (Knoxville, Tenn./Knoxville Catholic) and Catherine Mowry (Lynchburg, Va./Liberty Christian Academy) competed hard in first doubles and had the game square at 3-3, but the Hornets managed to get the following three points to take control and win 8-4. In third doubles, Emma Turner (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) and Elizabeth Key (Moseley, Va./Cosby) had the advantage 6-5, as Shenandoah took the last three of four points to take home two out of three doubles matches. 
      
In singles, Mowry and Sarnowski both led in their matches, looking to get the Yellow Jackets back into the match. Shenandoah would take home wins in sixth singles, fifth singles and third singles to get the three points they needed to take home a 5-1 victory over Randolph-Macon.

  • Spruill/Guzzo (SU) over Thurman/Mowry (RMC), 8-4
  • Letellier/Sarnowski (RMC) over Stepleman/Cherwien (SU), 8-7
  • Hatseras/Talko (SU) over Key/Turner (RMC), 8-6
Singles:
  • Thurman (RMC) and Spruill (SU) - 5-7,1-2 (Suspended) 
  • Mowry (RMC) and Guzzo (SU) - 6-4,5-2 (Suspended) 
  • Stepleman (SU) over Letellier (RMC) - 6-2,6-2
  • Sarnowski (RMC) and Hatseras (SU) - 6-3,0-6,1-1 (Suspended) 
  • Cherwien (SU) over Matty Grace Gilliam (Murfreesboro, Va./Ridgecroft) (RMC) - 6-3,6-2
  • Talko (SU) over Adele Huffman (Granite Falls, N.C./University Christian) (RMC) - 6-4,6-0

Randolph-Macon finished the 2023-2024 season with a 11-5 overall record and 8-3 in ODAC play. This will conclude the Yellow Jackets season and will be back in play for the 2024-2025 season this upcoming fall.
