Score:Â Randolph-Macon 3, Russell Sage 0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-16)
Venue: Day FieldÂ
Records:Â Randolph-Macon (8-7, 2-1 CVC), Russell Sage (3-13, 0-2 NEVC)
How it Happened:
- Sage surprised RMC by jumping out to an 11-9 lead early on in the opening set before a 5-0 run by the Yellow Jackets gave them the lead back. RMC used that momentum to continue to extend the lead, taking an 18-15 lead and then winning seven of the final eight points of the set to win the opening stanza.
- Randolph-Macon's momentum didn't stop, as they won six of the first seven points of the second set. Sage was never able to settle in as the Yellow Jackets continued to pour it on, extending the lead out to 19-6. Sage was able to tack on some points late in the set but RMC closed it out to win set two, 25-14. RMC hit .522 with 14 kills in the second set.
- Sage grabbed some momentum to begin the third set, leading 8-6. RMC would tie the score at 10 but it would unravel for the Gators from there. The Yellow Jackets went on a 7-0 run and eventually held a 23-14 lead that would all but seal the match for them, going on to win 24-16 and sweep the Gators.
