Bryce Matthews named All American

Matthews Tabbed as Randolph-Macon's First Ever Men's AVCA All-American

LEXINGTON, Ky. – After wrapping up his record-breaking season in NCAA play, junior Bryce Matthews (Chesterfield, Va./Clover Hill) is representing Randolph-Macon, as he was listed as an All-American on the AVCA Second Team.
 
Matthews posted career-highs this year in points (377.5), kills (314), hitting percentage (.306), digs (159), blocks (65), service aces (24) and assists (13). His points mark, as well as his 4.19 points per set, ranks second in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Additionally, his kills total and 3.49 kills per set both slot him second in the ODAC. The junior also ranks in the top-dozen in the conference in hitting percentage, service aces and digs.
 
The opposite hitter used a career-high 23 kills to defeat the Royals in the ODAC Championship, pushing him to lead Randolph-Macon in points, points per set, kills and kills per set. He posted 10-or-more kills in 14 matches this season, hitting above a .325 in 10 of those contests.
 
In the first round of the NCAA Tournament against #7 Messiah, Matthews went on to register team-highs in points (21.5) and kills (19), while finishing second on the Lemon and Black in digs (seven) and blocks (five).
 
Furthermore, over the course of starting in all 30 matches he appeared in, Matthews totaled a team-high 692 attacks, good for 23.1 attacks per game.
 
The Yellow Jackets entered their final match of the season slotting in the top-10 for NPI. Additionally, with its game against the Falcons, RMC bypassed the play-in round of the NCAA Tournament, marking the furthest the program has gone in its eight year history.
