How it Happened
- EMU jumped out to a 4-2 lead to begin the opening frame. RMC knotted the score at four but a 13-5 run by the Royals shifted momentum into their favor, leading 17-9. The Yellow Jackets could never get going as EMU grabbed the set one win by a score of 25-19.
- All momentum went to RMC at the beginning of the second set, as they led 7-1. EMU worked their way back to a four-point deficit, but a 5-1 run gave RMC a 17-9 lead. Once again, the Royals cut it to four with a 4-0 run but RMC opened it up again with an 8-4 run the remainder of the set to even the score at one.
- The opening points of the third set were close as RMC led by two at 9-7. A 5-1 run by the Jackets opened the lead up to 14-8, but the Royals cut it back to two at 15-13. A 7-2 run later gave RMC a commanding lead and brought it to set point at 24-17. The Royals grabbed two straight points, but RMC closed out the set to win the pivotal set three.
- Like the third set, neither team pulled away early on in the fourth. RMC turned an 8-7 deficit into a 17-11 lead, seemingly giving them all momentum. However, a 4-0 run by EMU cut the deficit to two. After RMC won two straight points, EMU went on another 4-0 run to knot the score at 19 each. EMU took a lead and had set point at 24-23 but RMC kept the set alive with two points. The Jackets had set point again at 26-25 but EMU won four of the next five points to force set five.
- Set five was close at the beginning, but RMC pulled away with a 3-0 run to make the score 9-5. The Royals cut it back to two, but the Yellow Jackets closed out the match with a 3-0 run to win set five 15-10.
