LYNCHBURG, Va. – The 11th - ranked Randolph-Macon softball team brought home a sweep on the road against Randolph College, as
Amanda Lanyon (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) collected six hits and three doubles over the course of two games to lead the Yellow Jackets at the plate.

How it Happened
Game 1:
- Lanyon started off the game with a bang, splitting the WildCat outfielders in left center field for a double. Naomi Sadler (Emporia, Va./Brunswick) drew a walk in the following at-bat, both moved up a base on a groundout by Rilee Baughan (Rappahannock, Va./Warsaw) to put both runners in scoring position. Lanyon scored the first run of the game on a Kayla Davis (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) sacrifice flyout to left field. Olivia Owens (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) tripled down the left field line to bring home Sadler to double the Yellow Jacket lead to 2-0 in the first inning.
- Randolph-Macon added two more runs in the second inning to double its lead again at 4-0. Kiley Lamberth (Mechanicsville, Va./Mechanicsville) singled to begin the inning and Alyssa Meharg (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) would come in to pinch run. Meharg scored as Jordan Brown (Chesterfield, Va./L.C. Bird) reached on a throwing error by the Randolph third baseman. Brown would later cross home on Lanyon's second double of the game.
- Gracie Ellis (New Kent, Va./New Kent) worked through tough spots in the first four innings, but managed to get out of them with no runs allowed. Randolph had the bases-loaded in the first inning and Ellis managed to get a double play with an infield fly and a WildCat runner getting thrown out at home in the process. Randolph had back-to-back singles to begin the bottom of the fourth inning, but Ellis struck out the next three batters to escape the threat from the WildCats.
- The Lemon and Black used the mistakes of Randolph to their advantage in the top half of the fifth inning. Baughan reached first on an error by the first baseman to start the inning. Jacy Ramos (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) was sent in to pinch run and stole second to put her into scoring position. Owens would reach base by another error by the Wildcats and Ramos used her speed to get Randolph-Macon their fifth run of the game in the process.
- The WildCats wouldn't go away quietly in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Jenna McDermott led off the inning with a double, she later scored on a throwing error by Randolph-Macon, as Lacey Lucado reached third on the play. Lexi Hawkins brought home Lucado on a safety squeeze bunt for the second and final run of the inning for Randolph. The Yellow Jackets still hold a 5-2 lead, heading into the final two innings.
- Randolph-Macon tacked on insurance runs in the seventh inning, Lanyon stayed hot at the plate, doubling for the third time of the game. Sadler reached first on a throwing error to allow her to get to second and bring home Lanyon. Baughan singled up the middle to score Sadler from second for the seventh run of the game. Randolph added a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Yellow Jackets would take game one by a score of 7-3.
By the Numbers
- Ellis records her sixth straight complete game and win of the season. The junior fanned eight WildCats in game one and gave up two earned runs on ten hits.
- Lanyon was hot at the plate in the leadoff spot, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and three doubles. She also scored twice and recorded a stolen base.
- Owens ended the game going 2-for-4 with an RBI triple.
- Davis and Baughan both recorded an RBI in game one.
How it Happened
Game 2:
- Randolph-Macon erupted offensively in game two in the very first inning, scoring five runs in the top half of the inning. Lanyon and Sadler began the game with back-to-back singles and Lanyon scored on the third consecutive single by Baughan for the first one run of the game. Davis knocked in Sadler on the fourth straight single of the inning to put the Yellow Jackets up 2-0, still with nobody out in the inning. Owens reached first by way of a Randolph error to load up the bases for Maddy Bates (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell). The senior did damage as she singled through the right side of the infield to score Baughan. The Yellow Jackets kept passing the bat down the lineup, as Hannah Martin (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) singled home Davis for the fourth run of the inning. The final run of the inning came by way of a Reagan Hill (Hanover, Va./Hanover) sacrifice flyout to center field that let Owens cross home for a five run inning for RMC.
- Baughan held the WildCats down in the circle in the first four innings. The senior struck out four and only allowed two hits from Randolph. She used the five run first inning by Randolph-Macon to not let Randolph fight their way back into the game. Baughan did not allow any WildCat runner to reach farther than second base in the first four frames.
- In the fifth inning, Lanyon singled into left field to begin the top half of the inning. Davis doubled home Lanyon that followed a Sadler walk earlier in the inning. Sadler scored the Yellow Jacket seventh run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Owens, as RMC now holds a 7-0 lead.
- Randolph-Macon added a run in the seventh inning by way of a Martin bases-loaded walk to score Ashley Bush (Virginia Beach, Va./James Madison) to give the Yellow Jackets an 8-0 lead. Baughan ended the game with six complete scoreless innings in the circle for Randolph-Macon with eight strikeouts and giving up only three hits. The WildCats added two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, as the Lemon and Black took home a 8-2 win in game two to gain a sweep over Randolph.

- Baughan got the win in 6.0 scoreless innings, giving up only three hits and struck out eight batters total. The senior added an RBI, while going 1-for-3 at the plate for RMC.
- Lanyon went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs scored in game two.
- Davis ended the game going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and scored once.
- Martin recorded two RBIs on a two hit day for the Yellow Jackets.
- Baughan, Owens, Hill and Bates all knocked in a run.

- Lanyon passed her teammate Baughan for third all-time in career doubles with 33 in her career.
