2/23/2024 8:15:00 PM

Box Score DEMOREST, Ga. – Junior Aaron Lautenschlager (Purcellville, Va./Loudon Valley) went 2 for 4 with a walk and two RBI as the Randolph-Macon baseball team dropped an 8-5 decision at Piedmont on Friday afternoon.
The Basics
Score: Piedmont 8, Randolph-Macon 5
Venue: Loudermilk Field
Records: RMC 1-2, PU 1-3
How It Happened:
  • The game was scoreless through the first four innings. The Lions loaded the bases in the bottom of the second before sophomore Colin Casey (Herndon, Va./South Lakes) worked out of the jam. A double by senior Myles Webb (Norfolk, Va./Granby) with two away in the top of the fourth gave the Yellow Jackets two in scoring position, but a groundout ended the threat. Casey exited after four scoreless innings with four hits, one walk and five strikeouts.
  • RMC started the scoring in the top of the fifth. Freshman Jon Quici (Philadelphia, Pa./Conestoga) reached on a one-out error, went to second on a passed ball and advanced to third on a bunt single by senior Grayson Bush (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello). Senior Matt Myers (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) doubled to plate Quici with the game's first run. Following a walk to freshman Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill), a fielder's choice by Lautenschlager brought home Bush to make it 2-0. A single by junior Chaz Harvey (Charlottesville, Va./The Miller School) knocked in Myers to give the Yellow Jackets a 3-0 advantage.
  • Piedmont tallied an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth and added three in the sixth to take a 4-3 edge.
  • The Yellow Jackets would respond in the seventh. Bush drew a leadoff walk and went to second on a groundout by Myers. After Wernoski was plunked, Lautenschlager delivered a single that brought home Bush to level the score at 4-4. With two away, Webb's base hit knocked in Wernoski to put the visitors up 5-4.
  • The Lions erupted for four in the bottom of the seventh as the home team took an 8-5 advantage on its way to the victory.
