How it Happened
- Randolph-Macon was quick to act on defense when the Eagles earned three straight corner opportunities, forcing Valentina Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) to stand strong from the jump. The rest of the first quarter action was balanced with little offensive action for either team.
- The second quarter was a battle in the midfield for most of the frame, with each side breaking through for brief opportunities on goal. Neither team was able to convert leading to the score being locked at zero at halftime.
- The Yellow Jackets had a flurry of chances in the third quarter, posting three shots in the frame, including one just wide from Cali Kujawa (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan). Ultimately, the Eagles were awarded a stroke opportunity as time expired in the quarter, but Ambrogi-Torres made the save to maintain the tie headed into the final frame.
- Roughly halfway through the fourth quarter, Randolph-Macon led an offensive fast-break after shutting down Bridgewater's corner attempt with Courtney Moodie (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) earning the Yellow Jackets their own corner opportunity, however, they were unable to convert.
- Neither team was able to put one past the goalkeepers in the fourth quarter leading to the need for extra time to decide the outcome.
- Bridgewater pressed offensively in the first overtime, with six shots to Randolph-Macon's one. The Yellow Jackets were able to survive and force a second overtime.
- In the 74th minute, Ambrogi-Torres showed heroics in making back-to-back saves to keep Randolph-Macon's chances alive.
- Just under three minutes later, Kujawa took on two defenders, eliminating both of them, before crossing the ball across the goal mouth where Natalie Moul (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) slammed the door shut with the game winning goal.
