How it Happened

  • For the first six minutes of play, it was Barton who recorded the only shot, as both teams presented stiff defense. On the Bulldogs' first full possession in the offensive zone, they scored to establish an early 1-0 lead. Two minutes later on RMC's following possession, Neely Winefordner (Glen Allen, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) put a shot on-goal and it was barely steered wide. The Yellow Jackets earned another penalty corner with one minute left in the frame, resulting in a shot that was deflected wide from Natalie Moul (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield).
  • The Bulldogs generated pressure to begin the second quarter, as they put a shot on goal from the corner that was saved by Valentina Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School). The Yellow Jackets turned defense into offense, as some crafty stick work from Addy Wicker (Henrico, Va./Deep Run) resulted in shots from both Brenna McLean (Rock Hall, Md./Queen Anne's County) and Wicker. While they did not convert on that possession, Olivia Greene (Amissville, Va./Culpeper County) sent a ball in for Janne Roelink (Den Helder, Netherlands/Norfolk Collegiate) on the following play, setting RMC up for an equalizing goal at the 8:10 mark. The Lemon and Black were relentless for the next seven minutes, as they dominated play until they snatched a 2-1 lead with less than two minutes to play before the half. Breea Dresler (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) scored her first goal of the season, as a result of a through pass from Samantha Major (Newport News, Va./Menchville).
  • While Barton had one push to start the second half, two penalty corners from Dresler and shot on goal from Ella Caldwell (Seaford, Va./York) helped the Yellow Jackets extend their advantage in time of possession. It was only a matter of time until Randolph-Macon took a 3-1 lead, as it was Greene who located the ball in front of the net and dropped a perfect shot in to extend her squad's advantage. After the goal with 5:11 remaining in the third, RMC posted six penalty corners over the remainder of the frame, reaching 16 total in the contest. Additionally, the team recorded six shots in the span, with two on target.
  • Randolph-Macon continued to dictate play, as they tallied a shot from a penalty corner two minutes into the period. The Lemon and Black defense continued to disrupt the Bulldogs' offense, as Barton found itself in RMC's circle for the first time all quarter at the seven minute mark. While the home team could not convert as it earned its 20th corner of the game late in the fourth, Randolph-Macon cruised to a 3-1 home victory.
Inside the Numbers
  • Randolph-Macon led 20-to-six in corners, marking a new season-high.
  • The Lemon and Black paced the Bulldogs in shots (22-to-eight) and shots on goal (11-to-five), both resulting in 2026 bests.
  • After allowing just one goal, RMC has not allowed more than one in any of its three games played this season.
  • Tonight was Greene's first-career game with a goal and an assist.
  • Winefordner's game-high four total shots represents a new career-high, while her two shots on goal ties the most in any game during her career.
  • Both Dresler and Kylee Gorham (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland) ripped two shots and one on goal each to join Greene.
