BALTIMORE, Md. – Senior right-hander Hayden Snelsire (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) tied a program record with 17 strikeouts over eight innings, and junior Myles Webb (Norfolk, Va./Granby) had two extra-base hits and knocked in four, as the 20th-ranked Randolph-Macon baseball team defeated St. John Fisher 10-3 on Day 1 of the Baltimore Regional in the 2023 NCAA Championship.

How It Happened

• Snelsire (8-2) allowed five hits, three walks and two runs. He had multiple strikeouts in each inning except for one punchout in the first. Snelsire fanned three in the second and third innings.
• After the Cardinals had a leadoff homer in the top of the first, the Yellow Jackets responded in the bottom of the frame. Senior Hunter Cole (Norfolk, Va./Granby) drew a leadoff walk and went to second on a single to left by Senior Ethan Iannuzzi (Chesterfield, Va./Cosby). Both batters moved up a base on a wild pitch and Senior Carter Johnson (Southampton, Va./Southampton) walked to load the bases. Junior Myles Webb (Norfolk, Va./Granby) doubled to drive in Cole and Iannuzzi, giving RMC a 2-1 edge. With one away, junior Matt Myers (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) singled to first to plate Johnson and make it 3-1. One out later, junior Grayson Bush (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Webb to increase the lead to 4-1.
• RMC added to its lead in the third as sophomore Lincoln Lubsen (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy) drew a one-out walk and scored on a two-out double by Cole to make it 5-1.
• SJFC tallied one in the top of the fifth before the Yellow Jackets answered in the bottom of the innings. Sophomore Chaz Harvey (Charlottesville, Va./Miller School) reached on an error, was sacrificed to second by Myers, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Lubsen as RMC took a 6-2 advantage.
• The Cardinals left the bases loaded in the top of the eighth before the Yellow Jackets put up a crooked number in the bottom of the inning. Lubsen started the inning with a home run, his second of the season, to make it 7-2. Bush walked, stole second, went to third on a flyout by Cole and scored on a sacrifice fly by Iannuzzi to increase the lead to 8-2. Johnson singled and scored on a homer by Webb, his fifth, to make it 10-2. SJFC added a home run in the ninth to make the final 10-3.

• Webb went 2 for 4 with a double, a homer, two runs and four RBI. He is second on the team with 18 multi-hit games.
• Cole was 2 for 4 with a double, one run and one RBI. He extended his hitting streak to 10 games and his on-base streak to 21 games.
• Johnson went 2 for 4 with a double and two runs. He extended his on-base streak to 29 games.
• Iannuzzi was 1 for 4 with one run and one RBI. He extended his on-base streak to 20 games.
• Lubsen was 1 for 2 with a walk, a homer, two runs and two RBI.
• Bush walked twice, scored once and knocked in one.
• Sophomore Sam Slevin (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank Cox) fanned two in the ninth to give the Yellow Jacket pitching staff 19 strikeouts in the game.

• Snelsire tied Travis Beazley with 17 strikeouts in a game for the Yellow Jackets. Beazley fanned 17 against Apprentice in 2006, 17 years ago.
• Over his past three starts, all in postseason play, Snelsire has struck out 35 in 22.0 innings.
• RMC is 29-1 when scoring six or more runs. The Yellow Jackets reached double figures in runs for the 17th time and have won all 17 of those contests.
• The Yellow Jackets are 27-0 when leading after eight innings.
