How it Happened:
- Roanoke had traffic on the basepaths in the first inning, as the leadoff hitter began the frame with a single and stole second. The Maroons scored on an error that brought the run home with two outs to make it 1-0.
- The Yellow Jackets were able to take the lead in the top of the third, scoring their first run on an Amanda Lanyon (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) single to score Jessica Pittman (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville). A single and a walk ensued, loading the bases, which was followed by Kayla Davis (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) walk to score the second run of the inning.
- Roanoke answered in the bottom half of the third to tie the game with a two-out RBI single, knotting the score 2-2 after three complete.
- RMC took the lead again in the fifth, after Amanda Lanyon's second hit of the game, Rilee Baughan drove her in with an RBI single to give the Yellow Jackets the advantage.
- In nearly a repeat situation in the seventh, Amanda Lanyon picked up her third hit of the game, a double down the left field line. She was followed by a Naomi Sadler (Emporia, Va./Brunswick) single and Rilee Baughan drove Lanyon in again with another single. The run gave RMC a cushion going into the bottom of the seventh and Gracie Ellis (New Kent, Va./New Kent) shut the door for a game one win.
