Smith, Bowen Net Two Goals for Men's Lacrosse at #14 W&L

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse team played visitor to 14th-ranked Washington and Lee in Lexington on Thursday night after being rescheduled from Wednesday. The Generals started hot to down the Yellow Jackets 22-7.

How It Happened

  • The Generals jumped onto the scoreboard early, scoring the first four goals of the game, but RMC got on the board with a goal by Jamie Smith (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) to make it 4-1. After a couple more Generals goals, the Yellow Jackets tallied a man up goal by Bubba Bowen (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) to cut the lead.
  • W&L extended the lead through the second quarter, totaling six goals to make the lead 13-2 at halftime. RMC had 12 shots in the quarter which was their most in any frame on the day, but the Generals goalkeeper kept RMC out of the goal column.
  • After the Generals capped off their 10-0 run, Duncan O'Brien (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox) put the Yellow Jackets back on the board in the third quarter.
  • The fourth quarter generated a flurry of Yellow Jackets goals, beginning with Jamie Smith scoring his second of the game, followed by Bubba Bowen's second man up goal of the game. RMC scored three of the first four goals in the quarter as another man up goal came from Logan Sinsebox (Monkton, Md./Hereford). The Lemon and Black tallied their fourth goal of the quarter as Matthew Sutty (Hockessin, Del./Salesianum) buried a pass from Peyton Rodriguez (Santa Barbara, Ca./Bishop Garcia Diego).

By The Numbers:

  • Bubba Bowen and Jamie Smith both tallied two goals in the game. Bowen scored two of the three man up goals for the Lemon and Black.
  • Jack Smith (Stevensville, Md./DeMatha) added two assists to his ODAC leading assist total of 32. He currently sits second in the conference with 57 points on the season.
  • Matthew Sutty scored his fifth goal of the season, all of which have come in the last three games.
  • Duncan O'Brien tallied a goal, marking the sixth straight game he has scored in, and eight of the last nine.

Randolph-Macon will travel to Ferrum on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. for an ODAC contest before returning home on Wednesday against Virginia Wesleyan at 4:00 p.m. on Day Field.
