Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon men's volleyball team hosted their first ever playoff game in the form of the CVC Quarterfinal against 14th-ranked Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday night. Jarrett Carrano (Beaverdam, Va./Patrick Henry) paced the way but RMC fell short 3-1 to the Scarlet Raiders.
The Basics:

Records: Randolph-Macon (16-15, 5-3 CVC), Rutgers-Newark (14-7, 5-3 CVC)
How it Happened:
- The Raiders got out to an early lead in the first set, opening a 9-5 lead to take control of the set. The Yellow Jackets slowly battled their way back, cutting the lead to two later on, 19-17. Rutgers wouldn't let RMC come all the way back, however, holding onto the lead and winning the first set 25-22.
- The Yellow Jackets flipped the tide in the second set. They were the ones to jump out to the lead early in the set, holding a 14-10 lead with momentum. Rutgers tied it up at 14, however, but RMC finished the set on an 11-5 run to take set two away from the Scarlet Raiders, 25-19. RMC hit .360 in the frame while Rutgers hit just .056.
- The third set was a close one throughout. RMC developed the largest lead of the set at 14-11 before Rutgers answered back to take the lead with a 5-1 run. RMC would let the Raiders pull away but couldn't retake the lead as Rutgers took the second set 25-23.
- The fourth set was a lot like the third, as both teams went back and forth holding the lead. RMC held a 20-19 lead late in the set when Rutgers went on a 3-0 run to take control of the set at 22-20. The Raiders closed out the set to win the match and advance to the semifinals.
By the Numbers:
- Jarrett Carrano was stellar on the night, posting 17 kills with a .431 hitting percentage. He had just one attack error in the match. He also had two block assists as well.
- Kody Rogan (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) capped off his excellent rookie campaign with a 36-assist performance. Rogan led the regular season in the conference in assists per set.
- Sean Cunningham (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) was a wall at the net, finishing with a solo block and six block assists, while also adding four kills.
- Ian Wagenhauser (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) was the other RMC players with double-digit assists, posting 12 to couple with four blocks.
