How it Happened:

  • Both teams battled back-and-forth throughout the first set as neither team could build a lead of more than two points. Eastern Mennonite had seized control at 20-18 until RMC sprung ahead with a 7-0 run to end the set, in which Jarrett Carrano (Beaverdam, Va./Patrick Henry) had kills for four of the final seven points.
  • RMC controlled the second set for much of the time, slowly building a lead throughout. The Yellow Jackets held a 20-15 lead, but EMU came back with a 4-1 run to cut the lead to two. Similar to the first set, RMC ended the set with a run of their own, this time a 4-1 run that took the second set, 25-20.
  • The Royals jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third set, showing life, but Randolph-Macon exploded for a 9-0 run that put them in the driver's seat for the remainder. The two teams split the points evenly for the rest of the set as RMC held on for a three set sweep, winning the third set 25-17.
