Three Players Record Hat Tricks in 16-8 Win for Men's Lacrosse

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse team had their second consecutive road contest in a three-game road stand as they played Shenandoah on Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets doubled up the Hornets in the goal column, winning 16-8.

How It Happened

  • The Yellow Jackets came out with a vengeance, scoring two goals in two and a half minutes, one by Bubba Bowen (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) and another by Jack Smith (Stevensville, Md./DeMatha) to open the lead to 2-0. RMC wasn't done there, tacking on another two goals before SU finally got on the board. Bowen netted his second goal of the quarter to end the frame with RMC leading 5-1.
  • RMC took that lead and added two more to it to begin the second quarter, building out to a 7-1 lead, including Jack Smith adding his second of the game. Shenandoah picked up two goals to end the half and cut the lead to 7-3.
  • Ryan Pritchard (Crofton, Md./DeMatha) continued his hot streak by scoring two goals in the third quarter. Avery Tankersley (Baltimore, Md./Boys Latin) also added two goals in the third quarter to give him a hat trick for the game. Bubba Bowen also picked up another two goals to give him four for the game. RMC led 14-6 after three quarters.
  • SU began the fourth quarter with two goals but Jack Smith tallied his third goal of the game followed by Connor Cadigan (Phoenix, Md./Boys Latin School) to make it 16-8 and seal the win.

By The Numbers:

  • RMC had three players with hat tricks in the game, led by Bubba Bowen with four goals. Avery Tankersley and Jack Smith also had three goals in the game. Tankersley also added two assists and a ground ball to his credit. Smith had two assists and two ground balls as well.
  • Ryan Pritchard had two goals and an assist in the game while also picking up a ground ball and causing a turnover.
  • Duncan O'Brien (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox) tallied two goals in the game.
  • Mike Allen (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) had another stellar effort on the defensive side, getting three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
  • RMC forced 23 turnovers by the Hornets while only turning the ball over 12 times, including just two second half turnovers.
  • RMC scored on their only extra man opportunity of the night, a goal by Bubba Bowen in the third quarter.
