How it Happened:
- RMC jumped on the Maroons early, pulling out to a three point lead, which they held for most of the set. The Yellow Jackets forced an over pass at the end of the set that Kody Rogan (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) picked up a kill off of, giving RMC the set one win, 25-20. RMC got at least two kills out of five different players in the set and hit .417 as a team.
- In set two, it went almost exactly like the first set. RMC jumped out to a three point advantage before cruising through a lot of the set. The Yellow Jackets maintained the lead throughout and pulled away at the end to pick up another 25-20 set win. Kolby Gibson (Bumpass, Va./Louisa) had three kills on 10 swings with no errors in the set. Jarrett Carrano (Beaverdam, Va./Patrick Henry) had three kills on five swings for RMC.
- For the third straight set, RMC built an early lead, seemingly on their way to a three set sweep of the Maroons, but Roanoke fought back from being down four late to get a few big kills and take the third set, 25-23.
- In the fourth set, Roanoke used that momentum to jump out to a 6-0 lead and then eventually an 8-2 lead. RMC came all the way back to cut the lead to one at 14-13. RC then pulled back ahead by three and eventually had multiple set points, but RMC wouldn't go away. It was tied at 27 when Kody Rogan and Hank Foglia (Remsenburg, N.Y./ESM) got up for a block to give the Yellow Jackets match point. RMC then forced an error on the final point to win the set, 29-27, and win the match 3-1.
