Box Score 2 UNION, N.J. – The Randolph-Macon men's volleyball team capped off their busy weekend with a trip to Union, New Jersey for a tri-match at Kean University to face Kean and St. Francis Brooklyn. The Yellow Jackets fell to Kean in the first match of the day after a close five sets. St. Francis Brooklyn took down RMC 3-1 in the second match.

How it Happened vs. Kean:
- RMC opened the match with a 6-3 lead after kills by four different players allowed the Yellow Jackets to jump ahead. Kean brought the lead back to 8-7 before RMC worked their way back to a 16-11 lead after a kill by Ian Wagenhauser (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run). Owen Hahn (Henrico, Va./Tucker) came off the bench and immediately picked up a kill to fuel a 3-0 run to end the first set for RMC.
- After the score was tied 3-3, RMC went on a 4-0 run to force a Cougars timeout. RMC kept Kean from getting back into the set, and eventually went on another run, extending the lead out to 18-9 to seize control over the set. The Cougars surged back into the set with a 7-0 run but was stopped by the Yellow Jackets before Kean could tie it up. Kean eventually tied the set at 21-21. The Yellow Jackets had set point at 24-23 before the Cougars answered with two straight points. The two teams traded blows until Kean finally sealed the set with two straight points to even the score at one.
- The third set began as a close set, with neither team pulling ahead. RMC took their first lead of the set at 13-12 and concluded a 5-1 run with a 15-13 lead after Hank Foglia (Remsenburg, N.Y./ESM), Kolby Gibson (Bumpass, Va./Louisa), and Ian Wagenhauser all had kills to give RMC control. After RMC had a 19-16 lead late in the set, Kean took the lead with a 4-0 run of their own. RMC returned the favor with a 4-0 before the Cougars came back with a 5-0 run to end the set and take set three, 25-23.
- Kean began the fourth set continuing their hot streak, opening an 8-3 lead before RMC answered with a 5-0 run to knot things up at eight. RMC built out a lead to 22-17 and eventually held off Kean to take set four, 25-19, forcing a deciding set five.
- The fifth set was close throughout. Neither team jumped out to more than a two-point lead until Kean finished the set on a 5-2 run to take the match with a set five win, 15-12.
By the Numbers vs. Kean:
- Kolby Gibson had a strong match, totaling 24 kills and a .390 hitting percentage to lead RMC. He also had four total blocks in the match with 13 digs.
- Sean Cunningham (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) was solid at the net, tallying four kills and seven total blocks for the Yellow Jackets.
- Kody Rogan (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) set a career high with 55 assists for RMC. It marks his second match of the season with 50+ assists.
- Jarrett Carrano (Beaverdam, Va./Patrick Henry) had 12 kills, eight digs, and three blocks.
- Ian Wagenhauser picked up 15 kills and two blocks.
- Hank Foglia had six kills and five blocks.
How it Happened vs. SFB:
- RMC held a 5-4 lead early in the first set that was erased by a 4-0 run by SFB. The Terriers held off the Yellow Jackets while extending their own lead out to 23-16. RMC showed life with a 4-1 run, but SFB took the first set 25-20.
- The second set went back-and-forth until it was 9-9 and Ian Wagenhauser fueled RMC with three consecutive service aces to give the Yellow Jackets a 13-9 lead. The Yellow Jackets held a 17-12 lead until SFB answered with a 5-0 run to tie the set at 17. Wagenhauser and Daniel Nguyen (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) helped a 5-2 RMC run to pull ahead. The Terriers came back to tie it at 24 but RMC won the next two points to take the second set 26-24.
- The Terriers built a lead early in the third set, jumping ahead 10-6. RMC cut the lead to one, 13-12 but SFB wouldn't surrender the lead. The Lemon and Black cut the lead again, this time down to two, but SFB once again ended the frame on a 7-3 run to take the third set, 25-19.
- The fourth set was tightly contested through much of the set. RMC held a lead at various points but could never build it enough. SFB eventually found a groove, taking an 11-9 deficit and turning it into a 17-15 lead and kept that lead for the remainder. They closed the match on a 5-0 run to win the match, 3-1 over RMC.
By the Numbers vs. SFB:
- Jarrett Carrano had 13 kills in the match while also having three digs.
- Ian Wagenhauser had 10 kills, with three digs and two blocks to his credit for 14 points. He also totaled three service aces.
- Kody Rogan set for 36 assists in the match, bringing his weekend total to 133 in three matches. He also had seven digs.
- Sean Cunningham tallied nine kills with a .667 hitting percentage.
- The Yellow Jackets hit at a .324 clip in the second set with 14 kills and just three errors.
Up Next:
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Tuesday at Roanoke for a matchup with the Maroons at 7:00 p.m. before coming back home Friday night for senior night in a CVC contest against Elizabethtown at 7:00 p.m.
