ASHLAND, Va. - The Randolph-Macon IHSA team had a winning weekend at the University of Mary Washington on February 11 and 12, bringing home the High Point Team award both days and beating out the competition by a margin of more than 10 points Saturday and Sunday. In addition, five R-MC riders qualified for Regionals and pointed out of their respective divisions.
Contributing to R-MC's dominating result this weekend with first-place rides were Grace Bakeman '24, Caitlyn Giese '24, Karsyn Mason '26, Bailey Moriarity '25, Kelsey Sullivan '26 and Sydney Waldrop '26. Strong second-place performances by Ruthie Alexander '26, Kate Hudson '23, Austin Skeens '23, and Alyssa Roberts '24 helped propel the team to a total of 40 points on both days.
"Every one of our team members rode incredibly well this weekend," commented head coach John West. "It is so rewarding to see both our seasoned upperclassmen and our newcomers performing at such a high level. We are building a team that has an exciting future."
Zone 4, Region 4 finals will take place February 25 at Liberty University. So far, the R-MC team will be sending the following riders, who will vie for a spot at Zone Finals: Alyssa Roberts in Open Fences, Bailey Moriarty in Limit Fences, Rebecca Faletti in Novice Flat, Caroline Allen in Novice Flat and Grace Bakeman in Intro. The team will travel to their final regular season show this coming weekend, hosted by Sweet Briar College.
