R-MC Baseball to Play ODAC DH at #23 SU

ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon baseball team will head to Winchester for an ODAC doubleheader at 23rd-ranked Shenandoah.

The Basics

Games 23 & 24: Saturday, April 9 at Shenandoah

Time: 1:00 p.m.

Venue: Bridgeforth Field

Records: R-MC 17-5, 6-2 ODAC; SU 18-8-1, 5-4-1 ODAC

Series Record: The Yellow Jackets are 17-25-1 against the Hornets in a series that dates back to 1987. R-MC has won seven of the past 11 meetings. The teams split a doubleheader in Ashland a season ago on April 10. SU took the opener 6-5 before R-MC took the nightcap 15-7.

Strong Offense: R-MC is first in the ODAC and fifth in the nation in batting average at .357. The Yellow Jackets are second in the country in slugging percentage at .569. R-MC is fifth in the nation in doubles with 65.

Hot Hitters: R-MC has five of the top 12 hitters in the ODAC. Hunter Cole is second in batting average at .420, Myles Webb is third at .416, Ethan Iannuzzi is seventh at .382, Spencer Pietruszynski is 11th at .375 and Carter Johnson is 12th at .369.

Hitting Streak: Myles Webb has a 17-game hitting streak, the longest current streak on the team. Carter Johnson has a 13-game hitting streak.

Reaching Base: Ethan Iannuzzi has reached base safely in the past 19 games.

Tough against Tufts: The R-MC offense scored 18 runs in a two-game series against Tufts. The Yellow Jackets handed the Jumbos their first loss of the season on Saturday, March 26, a 10-6 victory for R-MC.

Goose Eggs: In the opener against Alvernia, Hayden Snelsire tossed six shutout innings with six strikeouts in a 4-0 victory. Twice the Golden Wolves had leadoff doubles against Snelsire and neither scored. Snelsire retired 15 of the final 16 batters he faced.

Power Jackets: In the three-game set against UPB, R-MC had six home runs to just one for the Panthers. Blake Doggett belted three, while Ethan Iannuzzi, Hunter Cole and Will Hass each had one. The homer for Hass was an inside-the-park home run.

Plead the Sixth: The Yellow Jacket offense scored 34 runs in three games against UPB and 18 came in the sixth inning. R-MC scored eight in the sixth in Game 1, three in Game 2 and seven in Game 3.

An Army of Arms: R-MC used 15 different pitchers in the three games vs. UPB. The Yellow Jackets struck out 32 in 23 innings. Hayden Snelsire had seven strikeouts in five innings and Drew Ramos also fanned seven in four innings. The R-MC staff posted an ERA of 1.17.

Up Next: The Yellow Jackets are scheduled to travel to Salisbury on Thursday, March 31 for a 3 p.m. contest.
