How It Happened
- Nearly repeating what they did in their last meeting, both teams went past 25 in a nail-biting opening set. A block by Sean Cunningham (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va. / Kempsville) and Jarrett Carrano (Jr., Beaverdam, Va. / Patrick Henry) put the Lemon and Black in position to win up 24-22, but the Saints answered with the next three points. A kill by Kolby Gibson (Jr., Bumpass, Va. / Louisa) and a bad set gave the Jackets another chance, but Marymount scored the next two and four of the next five for the 1-0 lead.
- The Jackets and Saints evenly split the first 24 points before Marymount went on an 8-1 run to take control. The Jackets cut the deficit back to five at 22-17, but the hosts scored the next three points for a 2-0 lead.
- A 5-0 run in the third set gave the Saints a 14-8 lead. R-MC didn't give up and used an 8-3 run to give back within one at 20-19 after Drew Klein (So., Glen Allen, Va. / Glen Allen) capped it with a pair of kills. Marymount scored the next point before another Klein kill made the score 21-20, but the Saints closed out the match with the next four points.
