How It Happened
- The Lemon and Black scored early and often as they raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first six minutes to start the game. Averna's milestone came during that time as he scored his first just 1:38 into the game to tie Smollon and added his second with 9:01 to break it.
- The offense was more than just Averna, although he did have a hat trick 8:07 into the game. The Jackets scored nine goals in the opening frame with seven different players finding the back of the net.
- They did it in various fashions as well. Cooper Hauser (Fr., Charlottesville, Va. / Monticello) got on the board 21 seconds after a Kevin Andrews (Jr, Fallston, Md. / St. Paul's School) score as the Jackets raced down after a faceoff win. Tiffey capped the frame with a man-up goal as the Jackets took advantage of a Quakers penalty to make the score 9-2.
- Averna added another pair early in the second sandwiched around a second Tiffey score to put the game at 12-2 before the hosts went on a 3-0 run. The Jackets put an end to the comeback attempt with a 5-0 run to close the half and put the score 17-5 at the break.
- The second half was more balanced, but it remained under control by the Yellow Jackets. A 4-2 third quarter was highlighted by another man-up goal scored by Matt Williams (So., Richmond, Va. / Trinity Episcopal) to make the score 21-7.
