No. 10 R-MC Splits with Shenandoah, Finishes Tied For First In ODAC

(WINCHESTER, Va.) – With a 2-0 win in the opening game, Randolph-Macon claimed a share of the regular season ODAC Championship for the first time in program history. Even though the Yellow Jackets dropped the second game, they finished tied at the top of the ODAC standings along with Lynchburg.

How It Happened (Game 1)

  • The Yellow Jackets opened up the scoring early as Naomi Sadler (Fr., Emporia, Va. / Brunswick) plated the first run. After a single to left and a steal of second, Rilee Baughan (Jr., Warsaw, Va. / Rappahannock) did the honors with a double to bring in Sadler.
  • Sadler wasn't done as she doubled to open up the third and came home during a hit by Olivia Owens (So., Salisbury, Md. / James M. Bennett) to make the score 2-0.
  • Gracie Ellis (Fr., New Kent, Va. / New Kent) was outstanding once again and allowed just two hits in her seventh shutout of the season. She struck out 14 in the game marking the seventh time this season she has fanned double-digits.

How It Happened (Game 2)

  • Another pitchers' duel took place in the second game. Shenandoah ended up scoring the game's lone run in the second inning on a two-out single.
  • Baughan started the game and went 4.0 innings and allowed just four hits. Ellis came on in relief and pitched a pair of innings. She struck out four to give her 18 on the day.

Inside The Numbers

  • Kayla Davis (Fr., Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) went 2-for-3 in Game 2.
  • Amanda Lanyon (Fr., Midlothian, Va. / Midlothian) stole a base in the first game to give her 26 for the season to put her in a tie for first at the end of the regular season. Sadler is tied for third with 19.
  • Both teams evenly split eight hits in the second game. The Hornets were limited to just six hits and one run between both games.
  • The shutout of the Hornets in Game 1 was the Yellow Jackets' third consecutive.
  • With the rest of the results around the league, the Yellow Jackets claimed a share of the regular season ODAC championship for the first time.

Up Next

The Yellow Jackets will head to Salem to play in the ODAC Tournament. They will be the No. 2 seed and take on Shenandoah for a third consecutive game. First pitch is scheduled for approximately 2 p.m. on Friday.
