How It Happened
- The Mighty Macs put up a fight in the first set and led 15-12 midway through. At that time Drew Klein (So., Glen Allen, Va. / Glen Allen) sparked an 8-1 rally with a kill to put the Lemon and Black up for good. Four of the eight points were on kills as Klein and Kolby Gibson (Jr., Bumpass, Va. / Louisa) had a pair each. Klein also had a solo block at the end to make the score 20-16. The last five points all came via the offense as Klein kept up the momentum with three of the final five kills.
- In the second, Macon took control from the get-go and jumped out to an 11-3 lead. A pair of solo blocks from Sean Cunningham (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va. / Kempsville) and Klein helped pave the way and limit the Mighty Macs to a hitting percentage of just .038 in the game. On the opposite end the Jackets kept control by scoring eight of the last 10 points down the stretch to take a 2-0 lead.
- Another early lead followed suit in the third as the Jackets went up 10-5 following a Mitchell Wyatt (Fr., Prince George, Va. / Prince George) kill. A 6-1 run put the score at 19-10 after blocks from Scotty Carter (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va. / Frank W. Cox) and Owen Hahn (Fr., Henrico, Va. / Tucker). Immaculata scored six points down the stretch, but the comeback attempt was futile as Wyatt finished off the match with a kill.
Inside The Numbers
- Klein finished the day with 12 kills on 23 swings for a hitting percentage of .348. Cade Terrell (So., Glen Allen, Va. / Deep Run) set up the attack with 21 assists before gave way to James Manning (Jr., Glen Allen, Va. / Glen Allen) who tallied six in the third. Klein also laid down three of the team's seven aces.
- Klein led the way defensively as well with 10 digs for his second double-double of the year.
- R-MC hit .309 for the match with 38 kills, two shy of their season-best in three set matches set yesterday against Elizabethtown.
- The Jackets' front line limited the Mighty Macs to a hitting percentage of .059. R-MC played progressively better as Immaculata hit .200, .038, and -.069, respectively, in their three sets.
