R-MC Baseball to Host Tufts This Weekend

ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon baseball team will welcome the Jumbos of Tufts this weekend for a two-game set.

The Basics

Game 17: Saturday, March 26 vs. Tufts

Time: 1:00 p.m.

Game 18: Sunday, March 27 vs. Tufts

Time: 12:00 p.m.

Venue: Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park

Records: R-MC 12-4, Tufts 10-0

Series Record: The Yellow Jackets are 3-9 all-time against the Jumbos. The teams last met on March 24, 2019, with Tufts posting a 7-3 victory in Ashland. The teams were scheduled to meet again in 2020, but the game was cancelled due to COVID.

3-0 vs. ODAC: Tufts has won three games this week against teams in the ODAC. The Jumbos won 22-5 at Guilford on Monday, won 5-4 in 10 innings at Washington and Lee on Thursday, and defeated Lynchburg 13-5 on Friday.

Get On Base: Hunter Cole and Grayson Bush have reached base in all 16 games this season.

Hitting Streak: Grayson Bush has a 14-game hitting streak, the longest current streak for R-MC. Myles Webb has an 11-game hitting streak.

Goose Eggs: In the opener against Alvernia, Hayden Snelsire tossed six shutout innings with six strikeouts in a 4-0 victory. Twice the Golden Wolves had leadoff doubles against Snelsire and neither scored. Snelsire retired 15 of the final 16 batters he faced.

Power Jackets: In the three-game set against UPB, R-MC had six home runs to just one for the Panthers. Blake Doggett belted three, while Ethan Iannuzzi, Hunter Cole and Will Hass each had one. The homer for Hass was an inside-the-park home run.

Plead the Sixth: The Yellow Jacket offense scored 34 runs in three games against UPB and 18 came in the sixth inning. R-MC scored eight in the sixth in Game 1, three in Game 2 and seven in Game 3.

An Army of Arms: R-MC used 15 different pitchers in the three games vs. UPB. The Yellow Jackets struck out 32 in 23 innings. Hayden Snelsire had seven strikeouts in five innings and Drew Ramos also fanned seven in four innings. The R-MC staff posted an ERA of 1.17.

Up Next: The Yellow Jackets will head to Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday, March 29 for a 3:30 p.m. ODAC contest.
