How It Happened
- Guilford actually scored first with one of its runs crossing in the top of the first, but the lead was short-lived after the Lemon and Black exploded for nine runs in the bottom half of the frame. Carter Johnson (Jr., Southampton, Va. / Southhampton) and Myers highlighted the inning as both hit three run homers to right-center and right field respectively
- After a scoreless second, the Lemon and Black scored multiple runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. Iannuzzi provided one of them with a double in the third. He gave the Jackets yet another 3-run blast in the fourth which put the score at 17-2.
- Five more runs followed in the fifth. Hunter Cole (So., Norfolk, Va. / Granby) doubled down the right field line which allowed Grayson Bush (So., Charlottesville, Va. / ) to score to start the rally. By the end of the frame R-MC carried a 22-2 lead. The final runs were scored when Myers and Ryan Morris (Sr., Chesapeakke, Va. / Great Birdge) walked with the bases loaded.
- Defensively Hayden Snelsire (Jr., Berlin, Md. / Stephen Decatur) was effective in his start and improved to 3-1 with the win. He allowed two runs, none earned, on five hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in five innings of work.
Inside The Numbers
- The Yellow Jackets' 24 runs were scored on 24 hits and three Guilford errors. The hits and runs easily were easily new marks for season bests.
- The last time the Yellow Jackets scored at least 22 runs came on March 10, 2018, in Game 2 of a doubleheader with Emory & Henry where they beat the Wasps 22-5 in seven innings.
- Twelve different Yellow Jackets combined for the 24 hits. Myers led the way going 4-for-6 with five runs and five RBIs. Iannuzzi was 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored and five RBIs. Spencer Pietruszynski (Sr., Williamsburg, Va. / Jamestown) also had a four-hit-day with five at-bats. He added two RBIs and a run scored.
- Bere Bauers (Fr., Devon, Pa. / Devon Prep), Cole Stamm (So., Irvington, Va. / Middlesex), Nick Kreider (Jr., Elizabethtown, Pa. / Elizabethtown) and Jacob Lawler (So., Broad Run, Va. / Battlefield) each took one of the final four innings.
