Box Score (BUENA VISTA, Va.) – Jarrett Carrano (Jr., Beaverdam, Va. / Patrick Henry) led Randolph-Macon with 13 kills, but it wasn't enough as the Yellow Jackets' upset bid against No. 7 Southern Virginia came up short. The first two sets were decided by just two points before SVU was able to pull away in the third and fourth.

How It Happened
- The Jackets opened up the day with a 3-0 run to immediately generate some momentum, but a 6-1 rally later in the frame helped set the tone of the first set. Carrano started the run with a kill before three consecutive SVU errors. After the Knights scored the next point, another SVU miscue followed by a Sean Cunningham (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va. / Kempsville) block of a Nahuel Recabarren attack gave the Jackets a 15-8 lead, their largest of the game.
- SVU climbed back into it and eventually got within one at 24-23, but a Kolby Gibson (Jr., Bumpass, Va. / Louisa) kill gave the Lemon and Black a 1-0 lead.
- Another decent start by R-MC saw the visitors jump out to an 8-6 lead, but a large Knights run saw the hosts score 11 of the next 12 points. This time the Jackets were the ones making a comeback attempt and made got back to within one before SVU eventually scored match point for a 25-23 decision to tie the match.
- The third set saw teams seemingly go point-for-point with nine of the Knights' first 12 points tying the set. SVU started to pull away with a 10-2 run to take a 21-14 lead and held on for the 2-1 advantage.
- The fourth set saw the Jackets score the first two points before the Knights went on a 9-2 run to take the lead for good. R-MC didn't give up, however, and went on an 8-4 run with four consecutive points to make the score 24-19 before SVU closed out the night.
Inside The Numbers

- Cunningham was incredible on the front line defensively with 11 blocks on the night. Carrano also gave the Knights' attack problems with six rejections.
- John Saxman (So., Henrico, Va. / Mills Godwin) led the team on the receiving end with nine digs.
