(SALEM, Va.) - The Randolph-Macon women's basketball team came up short in its bid to win the ODAC Tournament championship as it fell to Shenandoah on Sunday afternoon. The second-seeded Yellow Jackets and fourth-seeded Hornets were locked in a defensive battle throughout the game and saw SU pull away at the end.

Venue: Salem Civic Center

As the other two games with the Hornets went, this game was also a defensive struggle throughout. Randolph-Macon held the advantage early by limiting the Hornets to just 3-of-20 from the field in the first and closed the frame with buckets by Aimee DeBell (Sr., Studley, Va. / St. Gertrude) and Becca Anthony (Sr., Amelia, Va. / Amelia) to take an 11-6 lead into the second.
-
A Juliana Park (Fr., Fairfax Station, Va. / Davidson Day) 3-pointer and another DeBell basket sandwiched around a Shenandoah bucket made the score 16-8 early in the second quarter. The Hornets eventually answered with a 10-0 run to take their first lead of the game, but Anthony hit a 3-pointer to give R-MC a 19-18 lead going into the halftime break.
-
In the third, a Park 3-pointer and a Catherine Kagey (So., Roanoke, Va. / Faith Christian) layup put the Jackets up 25-23. The momentum didn't last long, however, as Shenandoah closed the quarter on a 20-7 run.
-
A pair of Kagey free throws and a DeBell layup put the Jackets back within seven midway through the fourth, but it was the closest the Lemon and Black would get the rest of the way as Shenandoah executed well from the free throw line down the stretch.
-
Kagey led the Lemon and Black with 12 points and 10 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season.
-
Anthony and DeBell both joined her in double figures with 11 points each. Anthony pulled down eight rebounds while DeBell tallied six.
-
Despite being one of the shortest players on the court, Cheridan Hatfield (Sr., Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial) pulled down nine boards.
-
Shenandoah was led by Sierra St. Cyr with 14 points. Madisen Kimble added 11.
-
This was Randolph-Macon's 14th title game appearance in the ODAC Tournament. The Jackets are 10-4 all-time in those games.
