Box Score 2 ASHLAND, Va. – Junior Hayden Snelsire (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) hurled six shutout innings with six strikeouts in the opener as the Randolph-Macon baseball team split a doubleheader with Alvernia on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened: Game 1
- The Yellow Jackets started the scoring in the bottom of the first. Senior Spencer Pietruszynski (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) drew a walk and went to second when junior Ethan Iannuzzi (Chesterfield, Va./Cosby) was hit by a pitch. Both came home on a double by sophomore Hunter Cole (Norfolk, Va./Granby) as R-MC went up 2-0.
- The Golden Wolves had a leadoff double in the top of the second and the runner was sacrificed to third, but Snelsire got a strikeout and a groundout to work out of trouble.
- In the bottom of the second, junior Logan Smith (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) had a one-out single and scored on a balk to make it 3-0.
- Alvernia had another leadoff double in the third, but a groundout, a flyout to shallow right and a strikeout by Snelsire kept the visitors off the scoreboard.
- The Yellow Jackets added to their lead in the bottom of the third. Junior Carter Johnson (Southampton, Va./Southampton) drew a one-out walk, went to second on an errant pickoff throw and scored on a base hit by sophomore Grayson Bush (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) to extend the lead to 4-0.

- Junior Lyle Holland (Valdese, N.C./Freedom) retired the side in the seventh to preserve the shutout.

How It Happened: Game 2
- R-MC would again but up a crooked number in the first. Pietruszynski was hit by a pitch, went to second on a wild pitch and came home on a double by Iannuzzi. With one away, Iannuzzi stole third and scored on a groundout by senior Will Hass (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) to give the home team a 2-0 advantage.
- The Wolves would put up three in the second and one in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead.
- The Yellow Jackets would reclaim the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Hass drew a leadoff walk and scored on a one-out triple off the bat of junior Brooks Mazey (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) as R-MC pulled within one. Mazey tied the game on Johnson's single. Following a walk to freshman Lincoln Lubsen (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy), Johnson scored on a single by Bush to put the Yellow Jackets up one. Lubsen scored on a hit by Pietruszynski as R-MC took a 6-4 lead.
- R-MC added an insurance run in the fifth as junior Blake Doggett (Richmond, Va./Hanover) had a leadoff double and scored on a two-out single by Lubsen to make it 7-4.
- AU scored five times in the top of the sixth on one hit, with four of the runs being unearned, to take a 9-7 edge. R-MC would not score over its final two at-bats as the Wolves salvaged the split.
