Jackets Host Goucher In Men's Lacrosse

(ASHLAND, Va.) – The Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse team will look to get back into the win column as it hosts Goucher on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets nearly pulled off the upset of No. 4 Christopher Newport a week ago, while the Gophers are coming off a midweek loss to Gettysburg.

The Yellow Jackets raced out to a 5-2 lead after a quarter of play and kept the pressure on to outscore the Gophers in each frame. Colin DiSesa had a big game as he led the Lemon and Black with four goals and three assists, while Andrew Tiffey (Sr., Columbia, Md. / Wilde Lake) nearly equaled him with four goals and two helpers. Brendan Markovic also had six points on three goals and three assists. Brandon Smith (Sr., Richmond, Va. / Douglas Freeman) joined the aforementioned by also recording a hat trick.

Last Time Out: Randolph-Macon 12, No. 4 Christopher Newport 14 – Saturday, Feb. 19, at Nunnally Field

Randolph-Macon had the Captains on their heels with a 9-7 lead late in the third quarter, but CNU proceeded to go on a 5-0 run to take the lead and hold on to avoid the upset. Tiffey had another excellent game with four goals, an assist, and three ground balls. Ryan Pritchard (So., Crofton, Md. / DeMatha) added three goals himself and also dished out an assist. Gage Turner (Fr., Spartansburg, S.C. / Providence Day) had another spectacular game despite the loss with 15 saves on 48 shots faced.

Goucher 3, Gettysburg 21 – Wednesday, Feb. 23, at Gettysburg

The Gophers played with the Bullets close for a quarter before succumbing to a high-powered offense in the second. Goals by Milan Temple and Jared Halverson gave Goucher a 2-1 lead before Gettysburg scored the next 16 goals. Theo Cook IV also scored for the Gophers.

Inside The Numbers

  • Tiffey currently leads the Yellow Jackets with seven points on six goals, top 10 in the ODAC, and an assist. Jack Averna (Sr., Warrenton, Va. / Fauquier) is just behind him with six points on four goals and two assists.
  • Turner has had an impressive first two games to start his collegiate career. He's currently fourth in the ODAC in saves with 31 and third in goals-against average at 9.56.
  • Turner and Cooper Hauser (Fr., Charlottesville, Va. / Monticello) lead the team with three caused turnovers each.
  • Goucher has three multiple goal scorers through two games that lead its offense. Ben Smith leads the list with three goals and two assists for five points. Jared Heath leads the team in points with two goals and four assists. Jared Halverson has two goals and one assists.
  • The Yellow Jackets hold a four-game win streak against the Gophers. In addition to their last meeting in 2020, they also defeated Goucher 10-9 in 2019, 12-5 in 2018, and 12-8 in 2017. Goucher last defeated R-MC in 2016 by a 12-5 count.
