(ASHLAND, Va.) – The Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse team will have a high quality opponent for its home opener as No. 4 Christopher Newport visits on Saturday afternoon. Both teams are coming off wins to and are looking to keep the momentum going forward.

Randolph-Macon opened up the game with a pair of goals in the first five minutes before the Captains closed the half on a big run to take control of the game. Derek Marsilio (Sr., Harrisburg, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt) led the Jackets with two goals and two assists on the offensive end. Defensively Xan Johnston (Jr., Berlin, Md. / Stephen Decatur) picked up five ground balls and caused two turnovers.

The Jackets' defense helped them to their first win over the Eagles since 2001 and was the first time they limited them to single digit goals since 2007. Gage Turner (Fr., Spartansburg, S.C. / Providence Day) was impressive in his collegiate debut as he made 16 saves on 37 shots faced. He was named ODAC Player of the Week and named to the USILA Team of the Week. The offense was paced by Andrew Tiffey (Sr., Columbia, Md. / Wilde Lake) and Marsilio who scored two goals each.

The Captains scored three goals in the first four minutes and never looked back as they raced out to an 11-1 lead. Dylan Rice scored a program record eight goals and added two assists in the win, while Alex Brendes and Robby Adams scored three each.

- Three players of the 10 players on last week's USILA Team of the Week will be in this game. Turner represents Randolph-Macon while a pair of Captains, Rice and defender Phoenix Hines, represents the visitors.
- This is one of two top five times the Yellow Jackets will face in their next three games. R-MC will head to No. 1 Salisbury the first Sunday in March.
- Jack Averna (Sr., Warrenton, Va. / Fauquier) has scored goals in the last four games and 14 out of the last 15.
- Turner was the first player to be named ODAC Player of the Week since JD Spotts (So., Richmond, Va. / Collegiate) was named last March.
- Brandon Smith (Sr., Richmond, Va. / Douglas Freeman) had a three-point afternoon against the Seahawks as he scored a goal and added two assists.
