The Basics
Score: Randolph-Macon 53, Bridgewater 40
Venue: Crenshaw Gymnasium
Records: Randolph-Macon 15-6, 13-2 ODAC; Bridgewater 9-13, 6-9 ODAC
How It Happened
- Randolph-Macon opened the game making four of its first six shots to go on a 9-2 run while a rugged defense limited Bridgewater to just one field goal in the opening frame. The Eagles were still able to attack the basket and get to the foul line and went 7-of-8 from the charity stripe stay within six at the end of the first.
- After Bridgewater opened the second with a jumper to get within four, a 9-1 run on a pair of Kagey buckets, a Haley Pasqualone (Jr., Purcellville, Va. / Loudoun Valley), and a Cheridan Hatfield (Sr., Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial) jumper put the Jackets up 12. The Jackets proceeded to keep a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
- The defense remained nearly impenetrable in the third quarter as the Eagles were limited to just eight points in the frame. In the meantime, the Jackets extended their lead to as many as 23 after Juliana Park (Fr., Fairfax Station, Va. / Davidson Day) hit a 3-pointer 2:55 into the fourth quarter.
Inside The Numbers
- The Lemon and Black defense gave the Eagles issues all night and limited them to 23% on their attempts, Bridgewater's lowest mark of the season.
- R-MC limited the Eagles to 10% in the first quarter, 17.4% in the second, and 21.4% in the third. Bridgewater was 8-of-47 during that stretch.
- This is the second time in the last three games that Randolph-Macon hasn't yielded a 3-pointer by the opposition. Going back to the Jackets' home game against Shenandoah, opponents are 4-for-42, or 9.5%, in the last three games.
- The 40 points are tied for the fewest allowed by the Yellow Jackets in a single game this season. They also allowed 40 points at Eastern Mennonite back on January 19.
- Offensively the Jackets were led by incredible nights from Kagey and DeBell. They went a combined 13-for-17 as Kagey was 7-of-9 and Debell was 6-of-8.
- The five starters were unselfish all night as they nearly evenly split 14 assists as four of them had three each.
- Becca Anthony (Sr., Amelia, Va. / Amelia) was also strong on the glass as she pulled down 10 rebounds.
