Box Score (BALTIMORE) – Randolph-Macon jumped out to a fast start and its defense stifled Goucher in field hockey action on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets blanked their third-straight opponent, a feat not managed in 12 years.
The Basics
Score: Randolph-Macon 2, Goucher 0
Venue: Beldon Field
Records: Randolph-Macon 3-2, Goucher 0-4
How It Happened
- The Yellow Jackets jumped out in front early with two goals in the first quarter. The first came in 10th minute as Alaina McCoy (Fr., Fredericksburg, Va. / Stafford) scored her second in as many games with an assist from Catherine Magill (Jr., Moseley, Va. / Trinity).
- Adding another goal just before the frame ended, Maria-Teresa Ambrogi-Torres (Sr., Richmond, Va. / Trinity) beat the buzzer for the 2-0 lead. Tori Mumm (Jr., Forest Hill, Md. / Bel Air) added the helper.
- That was all the Lemon and Black needed as it procured its third consecutive shutout. This time the defense was led by the back line. Sydney Duimstra (Sr., Montpelier, Va. / Deep Run), Annika Egerland (Jr., Forest Hill, Md. / Bel Air), and Mumm led the defense that didn't yield a single shot by the Gophers the entire day.
- In addition to not giving up a single shot, the Jackets also kept Goucher from taking a penalty corner.
Inside The Numbers
- This was the third consecutive shutout for the Yellow Jackets. The last time Randolph-Macon was able to say that was in 2009 late in October. Coincidentally that streak started at Goucher with a 3-0 victory. A 4-0 home win against Sweet Briar and a 1-0 win at Mary Washington.
- The last time the defense didn't give up a single shot came on November 2, 2019, when the Jackets defeated Ferrum in the regular season finale.
- Ambrogi-Torres has scored in each of the last four games. She has six goals over that span, and 12 in her last 10.
- McCoy has also been on a hot streak with a goal in each of the last three games.
- Mumm's assist was her first point of her collegiate career.
Up Next
The Yellow Jackets return home and will close out the month with three consecutive games at Nunnally Field. First up in that stretch will be Johns Hopkins who visits Wednesday with a scheduled start of 7 p.m.
