FOREST, Va. – Seven members of the R-MC program were voted to All-ODAC teams, including three seniors on First Team.
The trio on All-ODAC First Team included starting pitcher Matt Nickles (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge), catcher Jacob Selden (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) and first baseman Reece Yeargain (Chester, Va./Benedictine). Sophomore outfielder Ethan Iannuzzi (Chesterfield, Va./Cosby) was named All-ODAC Second Team. The three on All-ODAC Third Team were senior third baseman Mike Nickles (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge), senior designated hitter Kevin Mooney (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) and sophomore starting pitcher Hayden Snelsire (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur).
Matt Nickles went 3-1 in 10 starts with an ERA of 3.40. In 50.1 innings he had 68 strikeouts, the third-highest total in the conference and 10th-highest single-season total in program history. Opponents had a batting average of .215 against him. In conference contests, Nickles went 3-0 with a 2.34 ERA. In eight ODAC starts, he fanned 59 in 42.1 innings and opponents hit .199 against him.
For his career, Nickles is second in program history with 38 games started, fourth with 209 strikeouts, ninth with 18 victories and 25 decisions, and 11th with a winning percentage of .720 (18-7).
Selden appeared in 31 games with 29 starts for the Yellow Jackets. He batted .365 with 25 runs and 22 RBI. Selden led the team with three triples and 25 walks while recording an on-base percentage of .482, the fourth-best in the league. He threw out 10 potential base-stealers and posted a fielding percentage of .985. Against ODAC competition, he hit .384 with an on-base percentage of .500. Selden tied for 14th in program history with a career batting average of .351.
Yeargain played in 28 games with 27 starts. He hit .364 with 27 runs and 29 RBI. Yeargain led the team with six home runs and was second on the club with a slugging percentage of .589, the seventh-best in the ODAC. He had just one error in 164 total chances for a fielding percentage of .994. Yeargain hit .411 in 19 conference games with 20 runs, 23 RBI and a slugging percentage of .644.
For his career, Yeargain is sixth in program history with 17 home runs, seventh with 113 RBI, ninth with 129 runs and 76 walks, 13th with 461 at-bats, 15th with 47 extra base hits, 16th with 142 hits, 17th with 226 total bases and 18th with 27 doubles.
Iannuzzi appeared in 32 games with 31 starts. He hit .377 with 40 runs, 22 RBI and 14 stolen bases, the sixth-highest theft total in the conference. Iannuzzi tied for the team lead with those 40 runs and 14 steals. He had eight doubles, one triple and three dingers for a slugging percentage of .544. He drew 18 walks and recorded an on-base percentage of .476, sixth in the ODAC.
Mike Nickles started all 34 games at third base for the Yellow Jackets. He batted .285 with seven doubles, three triples, five homers, 38 runs and a team-leading 38 RBI. Nickles had a slugging percentage of .496 and stole nine bases. He hit .321 in 22 conference games with 27 runs and 22 RBI.
For his career, Nickles is second in program history with 74 extra base hits, third with 147 runs, 134 RBI and 22 home runs, fourth with 294 total bases and 42 doubles, fifth with 81 walks, eighth with 530 at-bats and 10 triples, 10th with 166 hits and 13th with 28 stolen bases.
Mooney appeared in 27 games with 26 starts for R-MC. He batted .302 with six doubles, two triples, two home runs, 22 runs and 28 RBI. Mooney had a slugging percentage of .469 and on-base percentage of .437. He hit .377 in 17 ODAC contests with five doubles, 15 runs and 21 RBI. Mooney had a slugging percentage of .541.
Snelsire had a 6-2 record in 10 starts with an ERA of 3.25. He had the second-highest win total in the ODAC. He walked 17 and struck out 50 in 50.1 innings, with opponents hitting .245 against him. Snelsire was 6-1 in seven conference starts with a 3.13 ERA.
The Yellow Jackets posted a record of 23-11 overall and 18-4 in the ODAC. R-MC won its third straight ODAC regular-season title.
