How It Happened
- The Yellow Jackets dominated the first quarter, using a 14-1 advantage in shots to build an 8-0 lead. Junior Jack Averna (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) scored three times in the opening period, the first just 28 seconds into the game. Tiffey also had three plus an assist. Sophomore Xan Johnston (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) and freshman Jack Carter (Towson, Md./Towson) also found the net for R-MC. Freshman Jack Smith (Stevensville, Md./DeMatha) had three assists and junior Derek Marsilio (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) contributed one. The Yellow Jackets were 8 for 9 on face offs.
- R-MC recorded the first five goals of the second period as the lead grew to 13-0. Smith had a goal and two assists, while Marsilio and freshman Matt Williams (Richmond, Va./Trinity) had a goal and an assist. Tiffey had his fourth goal and senior Michael Peters (Towson, Md./Boys' Latin) also scored. Freshman Owen Campbell (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) added an assist.
