LYNCHBURG, Va. – Junior Andrew Tiffey (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) tallied four goals and the Yellow Jackets won 30 of 34 face offs as the Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse team posted a 26-4 ODAC victory at Randolph on Sunday afternoon.

How It Happened

• The Yellow Jackets dominated the first quarter, using a 14-1 advantage in shots to build an 8-0 lead. Junior Jack Averna (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) scored three times in the opening period, the first just 28 seconds into the game. Tiffey also had three plus an assist. Sophomore Xan Johnston (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) and freshman Jack Carter (Towson, Md./Towson) also found the net for R-MC. Freshman Jack Smith (Stevensville, Md./DeMatha) had three assists and junior Derek Marsilio (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) contributed one. The Yellow Jackets were 8 for 9 on face offs.
• R-MC recorded the first five goals of the second period as the lead grew to 13-0. Smith had a goal and two assists, while Marsilio and freshman Matt Williams (Richmond, Va./Trinity) had a goal and an assist. Tiffey had his fourth goal and senior Michael Peters (Towson, Md./Boys' Latin) also scored. Freshman Owen Campbell (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) added an assist. The Wildcats would have the final two goals of the quarter to trail 13-2 at halftime. R-MC won 6 of 8 face offs in the second period.
• Randolph had the first goal of the third period before the visitors registered the next five. Peters, Carter, sophomore Christian Devault (Ashburn, Va./Riverside), senior Jack Silvernale (Warrenton, Va./Highland) and freshman Bubba Bowen (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) recorded goals as R-MC led 18-3 after three. The Yellow Jackets won 6 of 7 face offs.
• The Yellow Jackets had eight of the nine goals scored in the final quarter. Senior Jimmy Hasemann (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) had three goals and one assist, while sophomore Cannon Varnau (Winchester, Va./Sherando) had two goals. Williams, freshman Connor Cadigan (Phoenix, Md./Boys' Latin) and senior Austin Day (Marshall, Va./Highland School) also scored for the victors. Bowen had three assists, while Day, Carter and freshman Zachary Lane (Frederick, Md./St. Johns) each dished out one assist. R-MC won all 10 face offs in the final quarter.

• Along with four goals by Tiffey, Averna and Hasemann netted three. Williams, Carter and Peters each had two goals.
• Smith finished with five assists, while Bowen had three and Marsilio added two.
• R-MC had a 53-11 advantage in shots. Williams topped the Yellow Jackets with seven shots. Hasemann followed with six shots, while Tiffey and Smith each had five.
• Silvernale went 10 for 10 in face offs. Freshman JD Spotts (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) was 11 for 12, while sophomore Collin Eitel (Bishopville, Md./Stephen Decatur) was 7 for 10. Varnau and freshman Joe Terenzio (Los Angeles, Calif./Viewpoint) were each successful on their lone face off.
• The Yellow Jackets held a 37-7 edge in ground balls. Silvernale paced R-MC with nine, while Spotts picked up seven.
• R-MC caused 13 turnovers. Freshman Patrick Moyer (Crofton, Md./DeMatha) caused three, while Varnau caused a pair.
• Sophomore Harris Archer (Baldwin, Md./St. Paul's School) had one save in the first quarter. Junior Tommy Kane (Crofton, Md./DeMatha) had a save in the third period and freshman Oz Potter (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) stopped two in the fourth.
