Men's Lacrosse Cruise By Quakers

Box Score

(ASHLAND, Va.) – A quartet of Yellow Jackets recorded hat tricks as Randolph-Macon defeated Guilford in ODAC men's lacrosse action on a sunny Saturday afternoon. It's the third victory in the last four outings for the Jackets, while the Quakers have fallen in both games this season.

The Basics:

Score: Randolph-Macon 16, Guilford 10

Venue: Day Field

Records: Randolph-Macon 3-2, 2-0 ODAC; Guilford 0-2, 0-2 ODAC

How It Happened:

  • The aforementioned foursome helped R-MC get off to a fast start. Brandon Smith (Jr., Richmond, Va. / Douglas Freeman) started off the day with a solid strike just 58 seconds into the contest.
  • Penalties aided both teams on the next two scores. After the Quakers scored on an extra-man opportunity to tie, the Jackets returned the favor when Jack Smith (Fr., Stevensville, Md. / DeMatha Catholic) scored on an assist from Derek Marsilio (Jr., Harrisburg, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt).
  • Guilford scored the next goal, but it was its last for a while. Ryan Pritchard, Marsilio, and Jack Averna (Jr. Warrenton, Va. / Fauquier) all scored before the end of the quarter to give the hosts a 5-2 lead.
  • That momentum carried into the second where the Jackets scored the first five goals to cap an 8-0 run. Averna was the first to complete his hat trick and did so during this time with an EMO score to start the frame. Jack Smith did the same.
  • Guilford managed a comeback attempt with four goals in the third, R-MC was able to answer on most occasions. Brandon Smith completed his hat trick, while Pritchard scored his second during an extra man op.
  • On a day where the seniors were honored during pre-game, one of them scored to close the scoring for the Jackets. Michael Peters (Sr., Towson, Md. / Boys Latin) was able to take the pass from Marsilio and find the back of the net to make the score 16-8 with 6:26 to play. Pritchard's third came just before that over a couple minutes before that.

Inside the Numbers:

  • The Jackets spread the ball around the field with seven players combining for the 16 goals. Of the four players with three goals, Averna tallied the most points with two assists.
  • Oz Potter (Fr., Midlothian, Va. / Midlothian) was strong between the pipes with eight saves. He faced 37 shots on the day.
  • Jack Silvernale (Sr., Warrenton, Va. / Highland) took a majority of the face offs today and won 10 of them.
  • Marsilio took game-high honors with six ground balls.
  • Both teams were strong on EMO's as each team scored three with the given chances.

Up Next:

The Jackets conclude their three-game home stand with Bridgewater a week from today. Faceoff is currently scheduled for 1 p.m.
