How It Happened
- Scoring took place early and often for the Yellow Jackets as the opening half was sparked by eight goals in the first. However it was the Panthers that lit up the scoreboard first thanks to a man-up opportunity. Ferrum took advantage of the penalty and score 1:46 into the contest.
- It didn't take long for the Jackets to respond. Just 1:22 later, Derek Marsilio (Jr., Harrisburg, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt) found the back of the net for the equalizer.
- The flood gates started to open just 35 seconds later as Andrew Tiffey (Jr., Columbia, Md. / Wilde Lake) gave R-MC the lead thanks to an assist from Jack Smith (Fr., Stevensville, Md. / DeMatha Catholic). Jack Smith later scored himself just under a minute later.
- When all was said and done, the Jackets led 8-3 after the opening quarter. The second was even more dominant as the visitors outscored their opponents 6-0. Paired with the third quarter and most of the fourth, the Jackets experienced a 14-0 run.
Inside The Numbers
- Jack Smith led the attack with four goals and an assist. Tiffey was also featured on six scores. He found the back of the net twice and dished out four helpers. Marsilio joined Smith in also recording a hat trick.
- JD Spotts (Fr., Richmond, Va. / Collegiate) was dominant in the face-off circle as he won 18 of the 25 he took. It helped him pick up 10 ground balls, easily obtaining game-high honors by six.
- Other players with multiple point games included Connor Cadigan (Fr., Phoenix, Md. / Boys Latin), Michael Peters (Sr., Towson, Md. / Boys Latin), Jamie Smith (So., Roanoke, Va. / Patrick Henry), Jack Averna (Jr., Warrenton, Va. / Fauquier), Austin Zappia (So., Roanoke, Va. / North Cross), Cameron Foti (So., Annandale, Va. / Annandale), and Cannon Varnau (So., Winchester, / Sherando).
- A trio of goalkeepers helped protect the net in the dominant win. Oz Potter (Fr., Midlothian, Va. / Midlothian) started between the pipes and played the opening quarter. Harris Archer (So., Baldwin, Va. / Benedictine) relieved him at the start of the second and played the majority of the game. He was credited with four saves and didn't allow a goal in over 40 minutes of action. Sam Averna (Jr., Warrenton, Va. / Fauquier) then closed out the game for the final few minutes.
- The Jackets offense inundated the Panthers defense throughout the day. Overall they outshot the hosts 48-17.
- The 18-goal differential is the largest margin of victory for R-MC since a 25-4 decision against Randolph on April 21, 2018.
