How It Happened
- Kagey's aforementioned bucket tied the game 12-12 at the end of the first. It also foreshadowed what was about to happen in the second quarter. A Cheridan Hatfield (Sr., Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial) 3-pointer gave the Jackets a 16-14 lead and sparked 13-2 run. Three of the next four baskets in that stretch came from Kagey with the other coming from Marisa Ziegler (Fr., Forest Hill, Md. / John Carroll).
- The Lemon and Black used that run to go into the locker room 30-18 at the break. It carried into the third quarter where they started the second half on a 11-0 run. five different players scored during that stretch with Juliana Park (Fr., Fairfax Station, Va. / Davidson Day) sparking the run with a triple. Kagey, Hatfield, Aimee DeBell (Sr., Studley, Va. / St. Gertrude), and Paige Anderson (Fr., Sterling, Va. / Potomac Falls) added buckets after that to make the score 41-18.
- The Marlins eventually broke their dry spell seven minutes into the period, but the damage had been done and they were limited to just five points in the quarter as RMC carried a 47-23 lead into the fourth.
- Both teams scored more points in the fourth than they did any other frame. It wasn't enough to make a difference as RMC kept with the Marlins and didn't allow them to get closer than 18 the rest of the way.
