Box Score

(ASHLAND, Va.) – Aimee DeBell (Sr., Studley, Va. / Saint Gertrude) and Becca Anthony (Sr., Amelia, Va. / Amelia) both scored in double figures to help lead Randolph-Macon over Lycoming in the women's basketball season opener on Sunday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets have now won 11 consecutive regular season games dating back to the 2019-20 season.

The Basics

Score: Randolph-Macon 60, Lycoming 42

Venue: Crenshaw Gymnasium

Records: Randolph-Macon 1-0, Lycoming 0-1

How It Happened

  • Anthony got the Lemon and Black off to a hot start as she opened the game with 10 points in the first quarter. Half of them came at the charity stripe where she was 5-of-6 in the opening frame.
  • Randolph-Macon never trailed in the contest and led 35-21 at the half, but needed a strong finish to keep a Lycoming comeback attempt at bay during the third quarter.  At one point the visitors went on a 9-0 run all from triples to cut their deficit to climb back within seven, but DeBell closed the third with a layup just before the buzzer.
  • DeBell was just getting started. Over the next six minutes of in game action, she went 4-for-5 from the floor with two blocks to help RMC extend its lead to 53-34.

Inside The Numbers

  • DeBell led all scorers with 16 points. She was 8-of-15 from the field with eight rebounds. Defensively she posed problems for Lycoming with three total blocks and three steals. In the fourth quarter she scored eight and was 4-of-5 from the field.
  • Height was an advantage of the Yellow Jackets as they added three more blocks in addition to DeBell's swats.
  • The Jackets' defense limited Lycoming's starters to just 26 points. In fact, the Warriors' leading scorer, Mya Wetzel, came off the bench and totaled 13 points.
  • Rebounding heavily favored the Yellow Jackets. They led the rebounding battle 48-37, but where it really showed up was in second chance points. RMC scored 16 after an offensive rebound, while the Warriors were shutout in that department.
  • Devin Conrad (Jr., Parkville, Md. / St. Paul's) led the Lemon and Black with 12 rebounds. She had six on both ends of the floor. Three of her offensive rebounds translated to six points.
