ODAC Play Resumes As Women's Hoops Head To Va. Wesleyan

(VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.) – ODAC competition resumes for Randolph-Macon women's basketball as the Yellow Jackets hit the road for the second time in three days to take on Virginia Wesleyan. The Lemon and Black are looking to get back in the win column after dropping their last two, while the Marlins are coming off a loss as well and are in search of their first conference win.

The series has largely been in favor of the Jackets as they have won the last three and seven of the last eight. The teams split a pair of 2019 regular season contests, but RMC was able to take the season series with a win in the ODAC quarterfinals.

After an equal first quarter, the Yellow Jackets used a dominate second quarter to take control of the game en route to the win. Kelly Williams made her presence known with a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, both game-highs. Becca Anthony (Sr., Ameila, Va. / Amelia) added 13 points, while Charlotte Woods tallied 11.

Freshman Juliana Park (Fairfax Station, Va. / Davidson Day) had the best game of her young collegiate career as she scored a game-high 28 points to help the Yellow Jackets force overtime with the Eagles who were receiving votes in the national polls. She went 10-for-19 including 6-for-9 from 3-point range to help the Jackets fight back from an 11-point deficit. Catherine Kagey (So., Roanoke,Va. / Faith Christian) recorded her second double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds as well.

Virginia Wesleyan 47, Mid-Atlantic Christian 56 – Monday, Nov. 29 at Virginia Wesleyan

The Marlins and Mustangs battled close for the first half before MACU started to pull away in the third quarter. Adaje Williams and Jessica Jennings both had strong games for Virginia Wesleyan with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Both had nine rebounds. Williams had three blocks while Jennings dished out three assists.

Inside The Numbers              

  • With her incredible performance on Monday, Park is now first in the ODAC and tied for No. 13 nationally in 3-point field goal percentage at 50.0%. She's made 12-of-24 on the season and is also 50.0% from the field overall where she's made 23-of-46.
  • Aimee DeBell (Sr., Studley, Va. / Saint Gertrude) is second in the ODAC and No. 32 in the NCAA with a 57.4% mark from the field.
  • Devan Conrad (Jr., Parkville, Md. / St. Paul's School for Girls) is fifth in the conference with offensive rebounds per game.
  • Cheridan Hatfield (Sr., Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial) is seventh with 3.4 assists per game.

Regular Season Success

With their win over Averett two Fridays ago, the Yellow Jackets won their 13th consecutive regular season game. The streak was snapped against No. 20 Christopher Newport.

 and Cheridan Hatfield return to the lineup as VaSID All-State selections a year ago. Anthony was also the lone All-ODAC selection for the Yellow Jackets.
