RMC Heads To Mary Wash For Women's Basketball Showdown

(FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) – The Randolph-Macon women's basketball team resumes action with a short trip up I-95 to take on Mary Washington on Monday evening. It will be the second consecutive opponent receiving national attention for the Yellow Jackets as the Eagles are receiving votes in the national polls.

The Basics

Time: 6 p.m.

Venue: William M. Anderson Center

Records: Randolph-Macon 3-1, (RV) Mary Washington 5-1

Michal Ross added 12 and Becca Anthony (Amelia, Va. / Amelia) chalked up 11. Ashley Martin led Mary Washington with 16 points.

Last Time Out: Randolph-Macon 60, No. 20 Christopher Newport 95 – Saturday, Nov. 20, at Crenshaw Gym

The Yellow Jackets kept close with the high-octane Captains for the first quarter, but CNU eventually pulled away to win the R-MC Tip-Off Tournament Championship. Aimee DeBell (Sr., Studley, Va. / Saint Gertrude) had a spectacular game with 21 points on 10-of-12 from the floor and pulled down seven rebounds. For her efforts, she was named to the all-tournament team along with Catherine Kagey (So., Roanoke, Va. / Faith Christian).

(RV) Mary Washington 68, Washington & Lee 73 – Tuesday, Nov. 23, at Washington & Lee

A back-and-forth game eventually went the way of the Generals thanks to a 21-12 third quarter. Jordan Carpenter kept the Eagles in the game with a 14-point day and was nearly perfect as she went 6-for-7. She recorded her third double-double of the season with 12 boards.

Inside The Numbers

  • DeBell has been one of the best scorers in not just the ODAC, but the nation as well. Her 61.0% field goal percentage is No. 16 in the nation in addition to being the best in the league.
  • Anthony has also had success from the field, specifically from range. She is shooting 3-pointers at a 53.8% clip, No. 15 nationally and No. 2 in the ODAC.
  • On the defensive end, DeBell has been a force with 1.75 blocks per game, third-most in the conference. She's helped the Lemon and Black be the second-best blocking team in the ODAc with 3.2 per game.
  • As a team the Yellow Jackets are outrebounding the opposition 43.5-35.0.
  • Cheridan Hatfield (Sr., Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial) is sixth in the ODAC with an average of 3.5 assists per game.

No Place Like Home

The win at Shenandoah was Lindsey Burke's first road contest as head coach. All four games last year were played at home. The last true road game for the Lemon and Black before that came on March 6, 2020 when the Jackets upset No. 9 Transylvania in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Lexington, Kentucky.

With their win over Averett two Fridays ago, the Yellow Jackets won their 13th consecutive regular season game.
