How It Happened
- As the last few games between these two teams have gone, defense prevailed while limiting the opposing offense's chances. For the Yellow Jackets, it showed up in a big way in the first quarter as Gatlin Snyder (Sr., Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) kept the Maroons off the board with five saves.
- Annika Egerland (Jr., Forest Hill, Md. / Bel Air) added a sixth save in the frame as she kept a shot by Emilee Wooten out with a minute left.
- RMC got its first close opportunity on goal in the second quarter. Mackenzie Wunderlich (Fr., Midlothian, Va. / Trinity) took a shot late in the half, but it was saved by Roanoke's Madison Wingerter.
- The Jackets had two more chances late in the third. Alli Moore (So., Ashland, Va. / Hanover) and Mia Kuhnle (Fr., Yorktown, Va. / Tabb) both places shots on target, but Hope Keller made a defensive save on the first and Wingerter stopped the second in the final seconds.
- The lone goal came early in the fourth quarter. With the circle heavily congested, Roanoke's Grace Vernarelli inserted the ball from the top and Caroline Diehl was just able to get a piece of it and redirect it just barely inside the right post.
- In an attempt to equalize, Randolph-Macon had three shots over the next four minutes. An attempt by Anna Stribling (So., Annandale, Va. / W.T. Woodson) was blocked, and shots by both Moore and Maria-Teresa Ambrogi-Torres (Sr., Richmond, Va. / Trinity) went just wide of the goal.
