RMC, Shenandoah Square Off In Women's Hoops ODAC Opener

(WINCHESTER, Va.) – The Randolph-Macon women's basketball team will look to go 2-0 on the young season when it opens up ODAC competition with Shenandoah on Wednesday evening. The game features two of the teams picked near the top of the conference preseason poll as the Yellow Jackets were selected second and the Hornets were chosen fourth.

It's the first road game for the Lemon and Black since the 2019-20 season. All four games of the shortened season this past spring semester were all at Crenshaw Gymnasium.

Tickets are being sold via Shenandoah's Ticket Spicket site and are digital/mobile only.

The Basics

Time: 7 p.m.

Venue: James R. Wilkins Jr. Athletics & Events Center

Series Record: Randolph-Macon 13, Shenandoah 4 (Since 2001)

Last Meeting: Randolph-Macon 75, Shenandoah 46 – February 27, 2020 at Salem Civic Center

The Yellow Jackets opened up the ODAC Tournament with a dominating performance in the quarterfinals. Four scored in double figures for the Lemon and Black with ODAC Player of the Year Kelly Williams leading the group with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Michal Ross tallied 16 points, while Becca Anthony (Amelia, Va. / Amelia) and Aimee DeBell (Studley, Va. / Saint Gertrude) added 11 and 10, respectively.

Last Time Out: Randolph-Macon 60, Lycoming 42 – Saturday, Nov. 6, at Randolph-Macon

RMC pushed its regular season win streak to 11 games with its win over the Warriors. DeBell led all players with 16 points and was 8-of-15 from the field and pulled down eight caroms in the process. She also posed problems for the Lycoming offense with three blocks and three steals. Anthony dropped in 14 points, while Devan Conrad (Parkville, Md. / St. Paul's School for Girls) grabbed 12 rebounds.

Shenandoah 61, Albright 48 – Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Cregger Center, Salem, Va.

The Hornets had little trouble with the Lions and led by double-digits for most of the contest. A balanced attack saw three Hornets score in double figures with two more players come within a basket of doing the same. Olivia Weinel topped the list with 14 points on 6-of-11 from the field. Albright's Gabby Boggs totaled 19 points and 10 boards.

Inside The Numbers

  • The Yellow Jackets have won 11 consecutive games in the regular season. That streak started back on February 4, 2020, when they won at St. Mary's 70-54.
  • Including the postseason Randolph-Macon is 15-1 since that game with its only defeat coming in the second round of the NCAA tournament against No. 8 Oglethorpe.
  • Conrad's 12 rebounds against Lycoming currently put her first in the league in rebounds per game. Three others currently average double figures in rebounds.

Home Openers

  • The Yellow Jackets have historically played well in home openers. Since 2003, they have only lost twice in their first home game. RMC has won eight of the last nine during that stretch with the last loss coming two years ago against William Peace.
