Box Score (LYNCHBURG, Va.) – The Randolph-Macon field hockey team gave No. 17 Lynchburg all it could handle and then some in ODAC action Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Yellow Jackets, a late Hornets goal proved to be the only score after a great defensive effort.
The Basics
Score: Randolph-Macon 0, Lynchburg 1
Venue: Shellenberger Field
Records: Randolph-Macon 7-6, 2-2 ODAC; Lynchburg 9-4, 4-1 ODAC
How It Happened
- Lynchburg went on the attack early and amassed 14 shots and 11 penalty corners in the opening frame. Despite the pressure, the Yellow Jackets didn't break as Gatlin Snyder (Sr., Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) made six saves in the frame to keep the game scoreless.
- On the opposite end, Maria-Teresa Ambrogi-Torres (Sr., Richmond, Va. / Trinity) was able to get a shot off, but it was saved by the Hornets' Kayla Brady.
- That trend continued through the contest as Lynchburg kept the shots coming. Snyder added six more saves in the second, eight in the third, and three more in the fourth.
- Ambrogi-Torres had another opportunity in the fourth, but that attempt was also saved.
- Lynchburg wasn't able to score until there were 78 seconds left in the game. On a penalty corner Emily Yanes received the insert at the top of the circle and was able to score.
Inside The Numbers
- Despite taking the loss on the record, Snyder played an incredible game and totaled a new career-high 22 saves. Overall she faced 43 shots on the day with 24 on goal. Annika Egerland (Jr., Forest Hill, Md. / Bel Air) provided a defensive save for the remaining stop on target.
- Lynchburg outshot the Jackets 43-2 and had a 25-0 advantage on penalty corners.
- Snyder's 22 saves are tied for the 21st most nationally in a single game by any player this year.
