RALEIGH, N.C. – The 12^th ranked Randolph-Macon softball team split its games on the opening day of the Grand Slam Triangle classic in Raleigh, dropping the first game to Kean before picking up a victory over Piedmont in the nightcap.  Senior Maddie Stone (Glen Allen, Va. / Glen Allen) went 2 for 4 in the first game with an RBI while Sami Davidson (Stafford, Va. / Brooke Point) was 1 for 2 with an RBI.  In the second game junior Madie Rhoads (Portsmouth, Va. / Nansemond River) picked up the win in the circle while senior Shelby Hill (Mechanicsville, Va. / St. Margaret's) went 3 for 4 driving in a run and scoring two, the second of which ended up being the winner. Sam Scifres (Midlothian, Va. / Clover Hill) was 2 for 3 with two RBI's and sophomore Erin Doyle (Moseley, Va. / Cosby High School) hammered her first home run as a Yellow Jacket.

How it Happened:

• The Jackets fell behind early in game one on the day but got a run back as Davidson drove a ball into the left center field gap to score Hill.  They scored their second run of the game in the bottom of the seventh when Stone singled to right field scoring Scifres.
• Game two saw R-MC get off to a hot start as Hill singled and stole second before being bunted over by Stone.  This brought Doyle to the plate who blasted a ball over the center field fence to give Randolph-Macon an early 2-0 lead.
• In the bottom of the second R-MC would get another run as freshman Jessica Pittman (Virginia Beach, Va. / Kempsville High School) would single up the middle before heads up baserunning allowed her to advance to third.  Junior Kamryn Steinruck (Glen Allen, Va. / Glen Allen) would hit a ground ball and reach on the fielder's choice when Pittman beat the throw home. 
• The top of the third really saw the Yellow Jackets bust the game open as Maddie Stone would rip a leadoff double to left field before Doyle drew a walk and Stone stole third.  Davidson would then single down the left field line scoring Stone.  Freshman Cameron Hildebrand (Fincastle, Va. / James River) would pinch run for the Jackets and would immediately score when junior Ali Celiberti (Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) laced a single up the middle.  Scifres would follow her up with a triple to right field scoring two more. 
• Steinruck and Hill then ripped back to back doubles, one to left and the other to right finishing off the Jackets six run inning. 
• In the sixth inning freshman Kayla Horesky (Woodbridge, Va. / Colgan High School) would drive home a run to put R-MC up 10-3. 
• Hill led off the top of the seventh and singled back up the middle before moving all the way to third on a passed ball.  This allowed her to score what turned out to be the winning run as Doyle grounded out to third. 

Up Next:

• Randolph-Macon will finish up their stint at the Grand Slam Triangle Classic on Sunday, facing McDaniel at 9:30 AM and host William Peace in the final game at 2:30 PM.  They will return home on Wednesday March 4^th to face Stevenson in a 2 PM first pitch.
