How It Happened

  • As part of a ten-goal first quarter for the Yellow Jackets, senior Colin DiSesa (Ashland, VA / Hanover) captured the first three goals for R-MC, with the first assisted by freshman Kevin Andrews (Fallston, Md. / St. Paul's School) and the third helped by sophomore Jack Averna (Warrenton, VA / Fauquier). Sophomore Andrew Tiffey (Columbia, MD / Wilde Lake) took a pass from fellow sophomore Derek Marsilio (Harrisburg, PA / Bishop McDevitt) to score R-MC's fourth of the game and was followed quickly by an unassisted play by senior Tyler Flora (Mechanicsville, VA / Hanover) before Tiffey found the cage again, helped by senior Brendan Markovic (Westminster, MD / Winters Mill).
  • William Peace got one back before the Yellow Jackets scored four more before the period was out. DiSesa assisted on the first goal of the sequence to junior Jimmy Hasemann (Gaithersburg, Md. / Magruder), while Markovic pushed an assist to Averna about a minute later. Flora scored unassisted once more before DiSesa finished the period by taking a pass from Markovic and slotting R-MC's 10th goal of the game before the first horn sounded.
  • The offensive firepower continued for R-MC in the second quarter. Andrews scored and was quickly followed by Tiffey before William Peace was able to grab their third of the game. Averna and senior James Mahan (Salem, VA / Salem) both scored in a 30-second sequence around the 6:00 mark of the period. R-MC got a final goal of the second frame from senior Nate Malinowski (Middle River, MD / Boys' Latin) after he took an assisting pass from Hasemann. R-MC had a 15-4 lead at halftime.
  • R-MC shut out William Peace in the third quarter, while adding four more of its own. Mahan connected with Andrews about three-and-a-half minutes out of the halftime break. Tiffey scored once more after an assisting pass from fellow sophomore Brandon Smith (Richmond, VA / Douglas Freeman) around the 10:30 mark. Tiffey then gave his brother an assist as senior Ryan Tiffey (Columbia, MD / Wilde Lake) scored about a minute later. Hasemann earned his third goal of the game after an assist from Mahan around the eight-and-a-half to go mark in the third period as R-MC had the 19-4 advantage heading into the fourth period.
  • William Peace scored to open the frame, but R-MC got three goals to close out its win. Junior Michael Peters (Towson, MD / Boys' Latin) scored after an assisting pass from senior Lee Pratt (Winston-Salem, NC / Ronald Reagan) at the 6:23 to go mark of the frame. Junior Austin Day (Marshall, Va./Highland School) scored about a minute later on an unassisted play. Freshman Cannon Varnau (Winchester, Va. / Sherando) ended the day for the Yellow Jackets with R-MC's 22nd goal as Randolph-Macon won 22-5.
