How It Happened
- Goucher opened the match with a score in the fourth minute. The Gophers only held the lead for about a minute-and-a-half before senior Ryan Tiffey (Columbia, MD / Wilde Lake) took a pass from sophomore Derek Marsilio (Harrisburg, PA / Bishop McDevitt) to slot it into goal and even the score at 1-1. Markovic was able to make a nice pass to sophomore Brandon Smith (Richmond, VA / Douglas Freeman) about a minute later as R-MC pulled ahead. It stayed that way for almost five minutes of play until DiSesa pushed ahead with R-MC's third goal at the 4:33 mark. Andrew Tiffey scored his first of the day at the 3:16 mark after taking an assisting pass from junior Jimmy Hasemann (Gaithersburg, Md. / Magruder). Both teams scored in the final minute, with R-MC's coming on an unassisted play by freshman Kevin Andrews (Fallston, Md. / St. Paul's School), allowing the Yellow Jackets to go into the second quarter up 5-2.
- Smith scored his second about two minutes into the second period. Andrew Tiffey added his second moments later as well after taking an assisting pass from DiSesa, giving R-MC a 7-2 advantage. Goucher scored twice more, but R-MC finished the period with two-straight to give the Yellow Jackets a 9-4 halftime advantage. Markovic scored with 3:46 to go after an assist from Marsilio, while DiSesa scored his second of the game with an assist from Andrew Tiffey with under a minute to play in the period.
- Goucher was able to score first in the second half, but it gave way to Markovic's two goal performance. The senior took passes from his fellow senior DiSesa twice in a two-minute period to push R-MC up to an 11-5 advantage. Goucher scored twice to respond, but R-MC finished the quarter with three straight, two of which were by DiSesa. He started the streak with a pass from Marsilio that DiSesa slotted to goal. Smith scored his third of the day about 30 seconds later before Markovic assisted DiSesa on the final goal of the period just seven seconds after Smith's goal.
- Ryan Tiffey took a pass from his brother Andrew to start out the fourth quarter. It began a 4-0 run for the Yellow Jackets throughout the fourth period. Andrew Tiffey then scored twice in a row, matching Markovic's feat from the third quarter. On the first, Tiffey took a pass from senior Davis Hitt (Annapolis, MD / Annapolis) to goal to make it 16-7 in favor of R-MC. Less than a minute later, he scored again on an unassisted play. Senior James Mahan (Salem, VA / Salem) finished R-MC's scoring with a man-down play at the 6:02 mark. Goucher scored twice more, but R-MC was able to claim the win 18-9.
