Muncie Scores Five For Men's Lacrosse

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Senior Miles Muncie (Midlothian, VA / Midlothian) scored five goals, including all three of R-MC's in the first quarter. But, Lynchburg used a ten goal first quarter to get on top early and stayed there in route to a 24-6 victory over Randolph-Macon Tuesday evening in Old Dominion Athletic Conference Quarterfinal action at Shellenberger Field in Lynchburg. The game ends R-MC's season at an overall record of 10-8.

Muncie opened the scoring for both teams when he sent a shot into the cage at 13:57 to go in the quarter. Lynchburg answered moments later, but Muncie did too. Muncie took another unassisted shot into goal at 12:52, to put Randolph-Macon up 2-1.

The lead lasted just around 40 seconds as Lynchburg put the first of five goals in a row on the board at 12:11 to go in the period.

Muncie got his third of the quarter with 5:59 remaining. He took a pass from fellow senior Coleman Adams (Mechanicsville, VA / St. Christopher's), putting it into the cage for R-MC's third goal of the period and cutting the Lynchburg lead to just three.

Lynchburg fired off four more goals to take a 10-3 lead into the second period.

After the Hornets got the first goal of the period, Muncie struck again. He took the ball into the cage on another unassisted play with 8:45 remaining in the quarter.

Lynchburg would score the next 12 goals spanning three quarters and eventually got the 23-4 lead.

Senior Andrew Venezia (Rockville, MD / Good Counsel) scored next for R-MC at 5:47 in the fourth. He took an unassisted play into the cage to get the score to 23-5. Muncie scored his fifth of the game a few minutes after Venezia's to close R-MC's line at 6, while Lynchburg added one more.

Junior Chris Cerrina (Ridgewood, NJ / Ridgewood) made nine saves in 45:00 of work. Freshman Kyle Browne (Mount Airy, Md. / Liganore) made seven saves on nine shots in 15:00 of work. Randolph-Macon outsaved Lynchburg 16-10.

Junior Austin Evans (Glen Allen, VA / Glen Allen) led the team defensively with two caused turnovers. Senior Kyle Keepers (Roswell, GA / Roswell) and sophomores Ben Swavely (Downington, Pa. / Downington East) and Tyler Flora (Mechanicsville, Va. / Hanover) each had three ground balls while juniors Cole Churchill (Hillsborough, NC / Cedar Ridge) and Tanner McClelland (Purcellville,VA / Loudon Valley) each picked up two.  

This season closes out the most successful season for R-MC since 2013, when the team was 10-9.
