Muncie Scores Four In Action At Catholic

Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senior Miles Muncie (Midlothian, VA / Midlothian) scored four goals and R-MC had fast starts to three of four quarters, but Catholic scored six unanswered in the second period, which helped push the Cardinals ahead to a 15-10 win on a chilly and snowy Saturday afternoon in the nation's capital. Two other Yellow Jackets had multiple goals for Randolph-Macon (0-2).

R-MC opened the first quarter with a pair of goals. With 5:40 remaining, sophomore Colin DiSesa (Ashland, Va. / Hanover) scored the opening goal of the game. DiSesa's goal was followed quickly by a goal from senior Alex Camilliere (Huntingtown, MD / Huntingtown). Both were unassisted.

But from there, Catholic (2-0) ripped off seven straight unanswered goals.  The Cardinals scored just one of those seven in the first quarter, allowing the Yellow Jackets to take a lead heading into the second frame. But six straight Catholic goals put them up 7-2 heading into the halftime intermission.

The Cardinals scored quickly out of the gates at halftime to go up 8-2, but that also provided a spark for R-MC to make their own fast run. The Yellow Jackets scored twice in a row with senior Kyle Keepers (Roswell, GA / Roswell) and Camilliere scoring just about two and a half minutes apart, making the score 8-4 just minutes into the third period. Catholic answered with two of its own goals; but Keepers got on the board again with 6:06 remaining. Muncie added a goal just second later, which suddenly put Randolph-Macon back within striking distance. Muncie's goal was with a man-up advantage. But the quarter would yield three more Catholic goals, sending the teams into the final frame of play with the Cardinals having a 13-6 advantage.

R-MC got the quarter out to a fast start again with Muncie scoring with 13:48 remaining. His goal was assisted by DiSesa. Catholic got another goal seconds later before R-MC dominated much of the final period. Sophomore James Mahan (Salem, Va. / Salem) scored after a pass from sophomore Andrew Hogg (Charlottesville, VA / Albemarle) with 11:14 left to push R-MC closer to 14-8. Muncie got another goal just about a minute later to make it 14-9. A scoring drought for both teams persisted for much of the remainder of the quarter until 3:58, when Muncie put a pass from senior Coleman Adams (Mechanicsville, VA / St. Christopher's) into the net for R-MC's final goal of the match. Catholic added one more to secure the final score at 15-10.

Junior Chris Cerrina (Ridgewood, NJ / Ridgewood) played all 60 minutes and made six saves in goal. Adams and senior Tyee Buttrey (Damascus, MD / Damascus) each caused a pair of turnovers and Adams added a pair of ground ball pickups. Muncie led the team with four ground balls with sophomore Joe Maranto (Joppa, Md. / Fallston) added three.

This begins a long road trip for the Yellow Jackets. They next play at Christopher Newport on Wednesday at 7:00 PM before playing at Goucher next Saturday at 1:00.
